Bounty Hunter-Undercover Skill

By SamsonActual, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I have searched tirelessly for a clarification on this card, but to no avail. One of my gaming group always plays as Thaiden with the Bounty Hunter class, and this class seems so overpowered to me that I feel we must be interpreting it incorrectly... probably because I'm always the overlord.

The card reads "When you refresh this card, gain 3 movement points." My heroic friend's interpretation is, of course, that he can use three movement points independently of a move action, which allows him the opportunity to move three spaces and take three attack actions (when used in conjunction with "Lie in Wait"). Is this a correct interpretation of the rules? Or should he rather have to take a move action, adding 3 movement points to the that action? I desperately hope it is the latter, as he uses this combo every-other-turn, and my monsters simply cannot withstand firepower of that magnitude!

Gaining 3 MP does NOT require a move action, nor does spending them. Other abilities grant free MP like the item 'elven boots' and the OL card 'Blinding Speed'.

Thanks for the clarification! One more question: can "Undercover" be used after performing a stand up action? Or, for that matter, any other ability that does not require an action to be used, provided one has the required fatigue to use it?

Nothing at all can be used after standing up that triggers "during your turn." After performing a standup action, a hero's "perform actions" step ends immediately, and his "end of turn" occurs. Therefore, no other actions, no skills, and no abilities (such as suffering fatigue for MP) can be done with some exceptions for special triggers.. In fact, if you KO a hero who had exhausted "undercover" or "lie in wait," he can't use those either.

The only abilities you can use are those that specifically are allowed (Orkell's heroic feat, for instance) or that trigger at end of turn (Syndrael's hero ability.)

EDIT NOTE: Undercover is a skill used at the end of the bounty hunter's turn- it could be used after a standup.

Okay. That makes sense. So can a hero who stands up then exhaust "Undercover" in order to benefit from it his next turn, since it reads "At the end of your turn, if you did not perform an attack action, exhaust this card..."? It seems reasonable that this would be the case if ending one's turn is the triggering condition, and attacks cannot be performed while knocked out.

Yes. Because it triggers at end of turn, it is allowed. However, since he probably has a low amount of health remaining, if you KO him again before his next turn, 'undercover' will refresh without effect.

Was just reading some of the class cards today. ( Since I just got these classes.) Seems like the Bounty Hunter makes use of periods where the hero doesn't have much to do during that turn and can sort of "save actions" for the next round. Kinda useful when you really don't need to do anything, but really need to do something later.
