Can't get the cannon on the AT-ST

By Rumpus, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hey all!

I just got this for Christmas, and my brother and son have my been tearing up my Imperials through the Campaign.

I'm having trouble getting the AT-ST cannon into slot on the front of the model. The model simply will not spread wide enough to get the holes over the studs, and I'm afraid I'll break it off if I push any harder. I've even shaved the studs a bit, and still no luck. Has anybody else had this problem and found a good way to fix it?

Thanks!

I think everyone has had that problem unfortunately. I just kept trying to shave it down and not break anything. It finally worked, but it was a pain. I'd be curious if there are any easier solutions.

I've heard that submerging the plastic in warm water makes it slightly more pliable and thus easier to put together.

I just kept shaving the studs down, and it eventually popped in. Thanks!

For the one that came in the box, I had to shave the studs. What i did was shave them at an angle, the cannon didn't want to go in, because there was an edge it couldn't go over. By shaving away the edge of the studs facing the direction I was inserting the cannon, allowed me to slide it in, and then it clicked and held in place with the edge on the opposite side.

However by the time I'd gotten the General Weiss pack, i found this suggestion on BoardGameGeek, and it worked like a charm:

"Just lay the guns down on the table, grab the head and push it down on the guns, it will go on the first try"

And on Reddit:

"The best way we found was to place the gun on a table, hold the head on top of it in the right spot, then push down and sortof "roll" the head. It's tough to explain. Mostly, you want to push the head against the gun, not the other way around."

Use force. Not the Force, naturally.

Terribleness aside, I used a combo platter of filing down the nubs on the inside of the AT-ST "jaw," then I blasted that same section of the figure with a hair dryer for a few minutes and was able to wedge the canon in after that.

I also got this game for Christmas and had this same problem, but unlike all the great ideas mentioned above, I just pushed hard and it finally popped on. It did take me about 15 minutes of pushing, but it went on with no breaking, bending, or other damage to the AT-ST.

PS, Anyone else agree that there is a huge wow-factor when opening and going through all the components for this game? I'm not sure I've experienced such a wow factor. Maybe with Mansions of Madness, but very, very impressive!

Something to warm the plastic up just a little bit will make all the difference. I used my wife's hair dryer - just a few seconds of heat and the gun slipped right in.

Yup.

Just turn on the tap and hold it under a hot water stream for a while.....and it will pop in. I used that trick for the regular AT-ST and the Weiss AT-ST.

I agree. I'm beginning to think I will disappointed if I ever paint the minis. Like x wing, I just love the quality of everything from the cards to the art to the content. Played with the skirmish armies from the manual and I just loved the command cards and the way they changed up gameplay. I've always played with other people's sets as a rebel, but having my own is pretty awesome.

Me too. I filed the pegs down, sanded the sides of the gun down. Then, I remembered to put it in the correct position and it snapped in no trouble. It fits in with the guns in the higher position and gears lower. This makes a BIG difference.

I hope that helps a little...

It's weird. I had to sand the pegs down for the Core Set AT-ST. However, in the General Weiss pack it just popped right in.

An option for getting the front cannon inserted is to heat up the model with a hair dryer

Allow some time for the plastic to become pliable and then attempt to insert the cannon

This only took a couple of minutes and worked quite well
