Holy cow...
I don't think component limitations are really needed for something you won't be able to spam easily. I think the limitation on Troopers is because of the Imperial Might class that lets you really spam troopers. As is my Rebel players are having a hard time because I can use Imperial Might to spam Stormtroopers, Heavy Troopers, EWebs, Snowtroopers and thereby sort-of get around the limitations... :-D
well i'm unlikely to pick two as open groups but i now know i can and more importantly i can pick 1 as an open group if there is one in the starting or reserve group
I'm confused, what does the Weiss villain pack have to do with how many atst you can bring?

its one way to get a second model of an ATST. you don't have to build it as Weiss
The Weiss pack comes with alternate components and both Weiss and standard AT-ST deployment cards. So if you have the Weiss pack, you could have at least 2 AT-STs in a campaign mission, if you're willing to spend the threat on them.
The reason for the post is that the Stormtrooper pack specifically states that you can't use the additional troopers in the campaign, because you're still limited to 2 Gray and 1 Elite troop. You can use the alternate figure poses, sure, but it doesn't let you add a 3rd Gray or 2nd Elite squad. The Weiss pack does not mention a limit.
No, you can't. Page 8, component limitations:
In a campaign, players are limited to the number of figures included in the game. For example, the Imperial player is limited to six regular and three elite Stormtrooper figures, even if he owns multiple copies of the game.
Thats only a limitation against buying multiple copies of the core game. The figure expansions add figures to the game. For example the Hired Guns says you can add 2 squads to any campaign, 1 Regular and 1 Elite (so you could buy two copies of the expansion if you want to use both a regular and elite at the same time). The Stormtrooper expansion specifically that states you can't add additional figures from the expansion, so you're still limited to the original amount from the core game. The General Weiss pack has no rule on limitations. And as you can see in the original post, official word from Fantasy Flight Games stated that there is no issue with using multiple AT-STs.
Edited by neosmagusThat doesn't prove that you can't run 2 AT-ST cards, it's been debatable since the game came out if figure packs counted as being part of the game for that rule.
By your reasoning the new packs that aren't part of a campaign could never be used.
I just wish they had printed the figure count on the bottom of the cards, e.g. so 1/2 would mean 1 in campaign and 2 in skirmish.
Printing it on the card would make it harder to retroactively change the limitations through future expansions or figure packs.

So, if the core game includes only one at-st, why this rule? It has no sense. You could use one at-st and weiss, maybe that would be the initial intention of FFG.
The core game includes one at-st AND one token of the general weiss. That would have sense. I do not understand what can and cannot be used if it is like you say.
Its pretty easy, each expansion overrides the rules of the core game.
1) if you only have the core game, you're limited to the figures you have in that game.
2) If you buy a second core game, you're limited to the figures of 1 copy of the core game. (Component limitations). You cannot add the figures of the second copy.
3) If you buy a figure pack, you add the figures of the figure pack to the game, based on its component limitations rule.
There's only 3 imperial figure packs containing non-unique figures:
1) General Weiss comes with a standard AT-ST variation. This figure pack has no rules on component limitations, and therefore no limit to adding this second AT-ST to the game. You can convert the AT-ST between the standard and Weiss variations.
2) Stormtroopers. This figure pack specifically states you cannot exceed the components of the core game. So buying this pack does not allow you to use additional stormtroopers.
3) Hired Guns. This figure pack limits you to one regular and one elite squad. So to field both at one time, you need a second copy. But if you purchase a third copy, you can't add it.
I believe the only reason for the component limit rule in the first place is to prevent the Imperial Player spamming the rebels with a whole lot of cheap troops. The chances of spamming with AT-STs is negligible because of their 14 threat cost.
I suppose that it is impossible to play with elite saboteurs in campaign. True? Is it possible?
Currently impossible, unless some future expansion comes out. But thats because of Ally and Side Mission rules, not component limitations. You only get Allies via side missions, and the mission only gives you the Regular Saboteurs. You're not allowed to choose two Green Side Missions that have the same reward. You can get Elite Rebel Troopers though, if you happen to choose the Trooper Green Side mission and play Gideon's Red Side Mission, both of which reward you with troopers, and the rule states that if you're rewarded the same ally twice, you gain the elite version.
If the Rebels are bringing Allies, and with the right Influence cards, bringing two AT-ST's is actually possible. And if you bank your threat and play defensively, I wouldnt say "spamming" AT-STs would be possible, but you might be able to redeploy one later, just to mess with the rebel players.
Oh, how delicious.

"Spamming ATSTs"...
I now have a goal in life...
Yep, I am making the calculations now to surprise my group with this on their next mission. It wont be easy, but it will be completely amazing to pull off. I would have to bring my A-game (my rebels hate it when I bring my A-game) for the perfect combination of offensive and defensive tactics to ensure I can pull this off at least once.

Are you going to bank threat and bring BOTH of them in at once? That would be pure awesomeness.
I'm still unsettled about this whole thing. So if you buy multiple cores you can't bring in extra Stormtroopers, but if I go out and buy a Stormtrooper expansion I now all of a sudden can?
EDIT: Nevermind, I'm an idiot, I just reread this.
Edited by Boba RickBanking the threat to bring them both at the same time would be impossible (you cap at 20 threat). But getting them both on the TABLE at once? That's the goal.
Oh my rebels have no idea what they are in for....
In theory you could use both the Vader set inf card to reduce by 5 and the Sorin Set inf card to reduce by 3 and then deploy both for 20 threat.
Edited by DeadwolfYeah, it sounds cool, but I just HATE that if they stand next to the AT-ST it can't attack them.

Put them two spaces between so they can't stand next to both at once ![]()
Or put some stormtroopers in front of the AT-STs.
