Poe, Luke, and ... another T-70? Y-wing?

By Budgernaut, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm building a new list and here's what I have so far:

Poe Dameron (31)

-BB-8 (2)

-Push the Limit (3)

-Autothrusters (2)

Luke Skywalker (28)

-R2-D2 (4)

-Lone Wolf (2)

-Integrated Astromech (0)

TOTAL: 72

I have 28 points left to spend and I'm not exactly sure what to put in. I'm considering another T-70 like "Blue Ace." However, would it be better to drop it down to a Red Squadron Veteran (26) with Autothrusters (2)?

I could also try for a control element with Grey Squadron Pilot and Ion Cannon Turret.

I'd appreciate some input. Note, however, that I do not own the Rebel Transport so R5-P9 and R3-A2 are not options. I also do not have Twin Laser Turret.

If considering a red squad vet, I would only take him for the elite spot. Since you only have 28 points available, crack shot, R2 unit + integrated astro would fit.

Another option perhaps would be 2 generics. Prototype pilot with chardaan refit would give you a nice blocker to keep some of the pressure off Poe (that's who your opponent is likely going to gun for first). Of course, then you have only enough room for a bandit at 99 pts, or a tala at 100. Although the z-95 might be useful alongside the a-wing----if you block an opponent, the z-95 is more likely to get range 1 shots on a target with no actions and puts more distractions on the table so the opponent might not gun for Poe first...

Crack Shot is a good idea. Regarding the choice of Red Squadron Vet, I think he's worth it in this meta even without using the Elite slot because PS 4 will let you shoot before most TLTs without allowing them simultaneous fire. Granted, some people are moving up to Grey Squadron Pilots and Hired Guns, but I think they're in the minority.

With 28 points, the answer is stressbot, always stressbot!

Gold Sqd Pilot w/ TLT, BTL, R3-A2, comes to 26 points.

The stressbot is not in fact, the ultimate 26 point choice. Its good and all, but there are other good options too. Rebels actually have a ton of options in the 25-28 pt range.

I've been considering a Grey Squadron Pilot (20) with Ion Cannon Turret (5) and R7-T1 (3). There are two ways to go about this.

1) With BTL-A4, you can boost into range 1 of a lower pilot skill ship to set up two 3-dice attacks and hopefully deal an ion token as well. This is particularly good at combating enemy Twin Laser Turret Y-wings. You're hoping to deal an average of 2-3 damage per turn against the enemy Y that then cannot hit you with its TLT.

2) Without BTL-A4, you can use R7-T1 to arc-dodge lower PS ships and still zap them with the ion cannon. It keeps the Y-wing around longer and is generally more useful as a control ship because of the increased coverage of the Ion Cannon Turret.

You can take 28-pts Jake Farrell (chardaan refit, PtL, VI, AT).

Luke really wants EU...with the extra points you can get a TLT y-wing or two bandits for blocking and such

What about a blue squadron B-wing/e2 with tactician and ion cannon at 28 points?

Provides control in the form of ionizing and potential stress at range 2.
