ESB added the TIE Bomber, and RotJ added A-Wings, B-Wings and Interceptors.

TFA added zero new ships. Just new models of old ships.

Don't forget the Firespray in ESB. And they had several ground/air vehicles (which are obviously not relevant for X-Wing).

A T-65 and a T-70 have differences as well but maintain the same silhouette.

Not really. The split on the T-70 is quite different, as are the pods on the wings. Plus the T-70 is a good bit larger than the T-65. So the difference between them really are the same as the difference between Fighters and interceptors.

Because prior to this all evidence pointed to that being the case. In Before the Awakening the only black X-Wings are the T-85s. As it is we still don't know why Poe didn't use his black and orange T-70 on Jakku.

We know exactly why he didn't use his black X-Wing on Jakku. He was on a covert mission out of uniform in an unmarked fighter. The best pilot in the Republic in his flight suit flying his custom painted fighter is probably easy to spot by those looking for him.

I agree on the covert part but he wasn't out of uniform. He had a resistance jacket on, didn't he?

the tie/sf is significantly different from a tie and the only thing they have in common is looking like |o| from a distance and even then the /sf has the big antenna, turret, bulky power cell blocks...

and the t70 is totally the interceptor to the t65s tie. similar but really distinct. so really there are y wings a wings b wings x wings and ties and thats it forever i guess. the prequel v wing was a tie, the arc 170 was clearly an x wing, jedi starfighters were a wings and the n-1 was a Y flying in reverse.
