Signature Block Fleet Totals

By QuentinM, in X-Wing

So, I like reading people's signature blocks for their "total" fleets so I have decided I'm going to add mine too. But, I can't live in a world without rules, so a question.

Are people double counting multi-faction ships e.g. HWK-290s/Y-Wings/SlaveI etc? If you have: HWK-290 (3) under Rebel and HWK-290 (3) under Scum do you have 6 total or three and the ability to use them both ways?

Also I prefer to see the totals of each faction at the beginning too, more of a comment I guess. Some people have some huge fleets.

I count the ship as being part of both factions. I doubt there are rules. If the number is the same, it seems like a good bet that it is what people are doing.

One of the Squadron builder apps might be able to branch out and create a sig generator from peoples collections saved in the app or website...

I only count each ship once.

Use a mixture of font colors. This not only draws attention to the fact that you as an X-Wing player on the X-Wing forum own X-Wing ships, but it forces people to acknowledge your list of material possessions as they attempt to read through conversations.

This is strictly optional, but you may want to include a grossly exaggerated win/loss tally that completely fails to incorporate any kind of reference or context to make it even slightly meaningful.

Good luck!

Actually because of some doubles like Aces I have more than I carry in my kit. I don't have a sit but if I did it would be shy a few ships just sitting in the cupboard.

No rules. Personally, I'm only counting each ship once, and dividing them among factions (i.e. I have 2 Firesprays, 1 listed as Imperial, 1 as Scum).

Im listing my ships only once! If they can be used in multiple factions, I listed it in its original faction, ie. Firesprays are listed as Imperial, Y-Wing with Rebel, but Most Wanted YWing and Z95s as Scum.

I list my ships twice in each faction they belong to.

You have 1.5 Scum Y-Wings?

:D

I changed my signature because of this thread.

My signature has always been an attempt at humor

... read last entry, PLEASE. I don't wanna force or distract anyone.

Although I have kept it it up to date since I'm a collector and trader (not just a player that creeps around the forum)- The trade thread is too long and I use my sig as my online master list.

I list them based on how many I can field for the faction. That means for now 0 Scum Y-Wings, Hawks, Firesprays, or Z-95s since I don't have the pilots.

I block signatures because of how obnoxious the fleet lists are, especially when it's done with the gumpy little pictures.

Lists in the signatures started back during wave 3 when squad building threads were coming up and people were having a hard time advising list building as they didn't know what the person had in their fleets so couldn't advise on what to use. That is how they came about in a signature.

It also helps with the "my fleet is bigger than your fleet" ribbings.

As for listing ships, I list by how many dials I have for each ship for faction.

Speaking of signatures, I have to update with my Holiday gifts.

I have ships. Lots of them. I move them around a table, roll dice, and say "pew pew!".

I love how the user named Talonbane Cobra has 1 Kihraxz Fighter in his sig.

There can only be 1 :P

As a bit of an exercise in responsible signature creation, I have some information on this thread. The text of this thread, as of post #19, using only the words, so after eliminating any blank spaces and forum generated content/information, is about 2.2 pages long. Those 2.2 pages have 1,364 words spread out of 112 lines.

If we take out all of the signatures, the actual content of this thread drops down to .8 pages. There are 627 words over 47 lines. And I even left in the one single line of signature in this thread that is potentially useful (i.e. not a "LOOK AT WHAT I HAVE" or a reminder of manners).

Consider that many of those signatures are repeats, meaning that, even if someone did want to know how may Z-95 Headhunter Expansions that you purchased, they will be told again and again throughout the conversation. The simple response may be that people should just ignore signatures - but then what is the point of having them? Besides, people who do that or who block signatures entirely would have missed out on the single line of signature that does something useful by directing them to a 60 page thread that the creator is using to remind FFG that the forum wants a specific ship added to the game.

I love the emotion that was unintentionally drawn out during this thread...but thanks for the responses

I agree with this. As such, I think a product count is more advisable than a ship count. For example, you may have 8 TIE Interceptors, but how many of those are from Imperial Aces? I want to know that when I see your sig because it tells me how many of each card you own. Therefore, I do not think you should double count cross-faction ships.

I don't double count anything. And I spoiler it so it isn't all in your face.

Well said! Still, sometime it's useful to see other people's signatures just to remind yourself that your plastic crack habit could be so much worse...

Whenever my finger is hovering uncertainly over the "Buy It Now" button on ebay, and I start to feel the guilt, I like to read a JBR7 post.

The history makes sense, and the second comment is a good point probably more helpful...

And this is why I like to look at people's collections makes me feel better about the spending....even though I would still do it...
