Trade....

By Mike1975, in Star Wars: Armada

OK, so I really love the idea of Armada....just won't get to play it anytime soon....so I'm tempted to trade it all for an equivalent value of X-Wing stuff....

I have

3 Victories

2 Gladiators

2 Full Sets of Reb Fighters already colored with sharpies

2 Full Sets of Ties same as Rebs

4-5 Corvettes

3 Nebulons

2 Raiders

2 Assault Frigates

2 MC-30s

1 ISD

1 MC-80

1 Rogues

Nearly all are in the boxes made in the group....all except wave 2.

Thoughts?

Thoughts are to make an effort to get more of your xwing friends to play this with you instead.... Otherwise, I got nothin'!

There is an armada trade thread I will bump for you try also in that .

Serious don't get rid of it. X-wing is great, but the armada experience is so much more fulfilling. An hour game of X-wing is great, but a nail biting 3 hour game once you get the rules down is even better. Also the learning curve in Armada is so much less than X-wing because people haven't been playing it as long. The secret in teaching the rules of Armada is knowing them inside and out so that the game runs smooth. Those used to X-wings fast pace of roll dice, roll, roll, roll....done sometimes have a difficult time understanding the sutulties of the game. Those with short attention spans aren't going to like Armada because they don't want to plan ahead--not saying that X-wing player have short attention spans, just those who happen to. Armada is not a deeper game, it is just a game that requires several plays to really get it. My first X-wing game was just flat out great because I had a great teacher. I also got it right away because X-wing is one of those game. You need to become the great teacher if you want your X-wing friends to get Armada by moving the game along and spending the time getting the basic nuances of the game. Reading a few blogs will give you the strategy and then you need to play the game by yourself and run into those rules that can take 20 mins to look up. Cruise the forums sphere and on BGG to get to the common questions. The game is ridiculous amazing, but her flower won't open up to you with minimal effort. If you are dumping your game to follow the pack with the mentality, "If you can't beat them might as well join them", then IMHO you are just throwin in e towel. If you spent all that money and your friends won't play it and invest some time learning it, I might be looking for some new friends. Nothing's worse than going all in and your buddies saying "sorry not interested." Sounds like someone missed the caring is sharing part in school.

Armada will not reveal itself like X-wing and I think that is a good thing. Games for all occasions. People who try Armada once and think they got it and can have an opinion on it, especially if you didn't teach it well and it dragged on, are quick to judge given terrible circumstances. I find these people are typical snooty and only toreally want to play THIER GAMES. As an owner of 100 games, I can say that some games reveal themselves right way for what they are...others take time.

If these buddies of yours who you want to play X-wing with You, I am sure they have an extra 3-6 competitive ship builds for you to play. Just remember carp tching up to serious seasoned X-wing players is much more difficult and time consuming than catching up with Armada players. There are plenty of Armada players if you go digging. These people will tell you up front if you ask the basic strategies etc that you are not likely grasping.

Of course, Maybe you just don't like the game after 10 plays...then be all means sell or trade it.

It's not that I don't like it, it's just I'm making my own 6mm rules game and could use X-Wing with that, while Armada is sadly something that I cannot cross over with. I've played 2 games since I bought wave 1, although I will grant I was working on a post-grad at the time too.

I have a bunch of Xwing stuff I have literally never played with and I have considered trading it for Armada stuff, but then I realized I don't need any more Armada stuff and it makes me sad.

Toying with the idea of having 3 ISD and 3 Mon Cals but I can't imagine a build that uses all 3 that wouldn't have serious deficiencies.

Making a new rules set is ambitious. What ideas do you have? Basically, what house rules should I start devising?

Well I am using a completely different 6mm/1:285 rules set where you can make your own units and do crossovers easily. I have my own FB page. Nodal Wars (Formerly Mecha Skirmish).

I plan on space battles to mix with it that will be kinda like Armada and the new Dropfleet Commander but that is a few years out.

I'll double check my inventory tonight and get back to a couple of you.
