R2D2 *and* C3PO deployed together in campaign?

By VolcanoMan, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hello all,

Dumb question 101 here. I searched and did not find an answer...

My gaming group is wondering if R2D2 and C3PO are deployed together in a campaign, as a single ally (3+2 = 5 deployment points and threat)?

I ask, because nothing that I saw is clear on this. It seems to us that they are deployed together, because they are in the same pack, and because references to them seem to always be inclusive as "R2-D2 and C3-PO". Also, the Rebels players seem to always say: "I am not taking just one of them, if that is the case then I will take a better ally" which is what has caused the question.

It isn't stated in the R2-D2/C3-PO section of the FAQ, I looked. :(

Edit: Apologies, I should have put this in the campaign forum.

R2D2 and C3PO are two different allies. Campaign has a limit of one Ally per mission. Therefore, Only one of the them can be deployed in a mission with equivalent threat to Imperial.

However, R2D2 and C3P0 has side mission which has reward "Counterpart" which Rebels can use to bring either R2D2 or C3PO to any mission with 0 threat cost which does not count towards Ally limit.

Each one counts as an individual Ally and counts toward the "only one ally per mission" limit. They are earned as allies together and sometimes appear in missions together, but cannot be deployed as allies together.

There is a reward card called "Counterparts" earned from the Canyon Run mission that allows you to bring both, and specifically mentions this as a way of breaking the "one ally" rule.

They are both excellent allies individually for their points cost, with R2 being really useful in Mission with tech based terminals and 3po just being generally good in any mission by giving you a focus token, +1 evade and an extra activation.

They might individually lack the raw power of Luke Han or Chewbacca, but they also don't allow the Imperial player to dump a free Royal Guard and Nexu on you the first turn either.

OK thanks for the feedback.

I missed the Counterparts reward card - that is nice. We are new to the game. :)

Please tell m if I am reading this wrong, but "Counterparts" is not restricted to 3po and R2. You could do 3po and Chewie, or R2 and Luke.

You know, that does seem right. All is says is that the free one is r2 or 3po. It doesn't say they have to be together. I never realized that.

Yes you are right..."Counterparts" can be used with any Ally that Rebel has already earned.
