Silhouette 3 ship attached to a Silhouette 4 ship

By Maese Mateo, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I've recently started an EotE/FaD campaign (mostly EotE) with some friends, and it won't take them long to get their ownstarship (I've chosen a YT-2400).

One of the things my players would like to customize on their ship is being hable to attach a single starfighter (an x-wing maybe) to their starship so they can deploy it if necessary. Unfortunately the only modification I found on the book is for bigger ships who carry multiple starfighters.

Any idea how should we do it? I imagine the extra weight will affect the ship's Handling and Speed as long as the starfighter is attached.

Have em run into each other?

You can just do it, no mods, attachments, or penalties.

It should count as 1 hard point and maybe cost 1/2 the price of a modified hanger bay or somewhere around 7500 - 10000 credits. I don't have the books in front of me to get an idea of cost I agree that it should effect the ship's speed and handling, therefore I would decrease the top speed by 1 and reduce the handling by 2 or 3. Should there be mods to this attachment? Hmmm. I dunno. Maybe one to help with the handling ... maybe external dampeners (just made that term up =) to help with the weight making the handling 1 less poor. Maybe the basic attachment allows 2 ships of 2 silhouettes smaller to be attached and maybe there's a modification which allows 1 ship of 1 silhouette smaller to be attached or the 2 ships of 2 silhouettes smaller to be attached.

Again, don't have the books with me but maybe there is something in Fly Casual or Stay on Target for this?

Isn't there a restriction on the hanger bay that the silhouettes of the ship being stored need to be 2 lower than the main ship? And do you need a silhouette of 5 for it anyways? Isn't the silhouette for a YT-2400 a 4? I think the OP was looking for a custom attachment for a silhouette 3 fighter to be on a silhouette 4 freighter.

Thank you! I totally missed that sidebar.

The page he mentioned isn't for the Hangar Bay upgrade, but rather a sidebar that explains that most freighters have external clamps for one or two starfighters. :)

Problem solved I guess.

Oooo ... very nice! I don't have the rulebook in front of me, so that's a great find then!

Its not often in the movies, but you see it a lot in the cartoons where small capital ships and frigates connect via airlocks. My only comment would be getting in and out of attached star fighter. most that we have seen have hatches or sliding canopys that i have no clue how you would get into it during space travel with out wearing full space suit

This came up before. Most fighters appear to have either sliding canopies, or a secondary hatch, making them able to mate with a cotterdam/cofferdam style airlock skirt.

Of course there's disagreement, as some GMs just don't like the idea of easy freighter/fighter connections, no matter how canon.

When my players were doing it I declared that the "free" clamps from the sidebar are only intended to allow non hyperspace capable star-fighters to travel through hyperspace with the ship. There was no connection ti the main ship. If they wanted to be able to move between the two they had to do a space walk.

The page 258 reference, I would assume is using the Airlock Docking clamps.

So determine whether your frieghter has 1 or 2 docking clamps and that is how many snub fighters could reasonably "piggyback" through a hyperspace jump.

Though technically, a X-wing would be able to do their own jumps.
