E-wings. What's their deal?

By Arratak, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I really love the E-wing. I find it's the comparable ship to the tie defender.

Although I feel like I'm getting rammed hard for taking it. It's faster then a T-70 x-wing, with no boost? What the heck?

The tie defender straight 3's across the board and we're down a hull point.

Becuase of no internal boost. We can't take auto thrusters either.

Hard to build for defense.

So far, I'm tooling corran horn with:

Fire control system

R7 astromech

Predator

I'm hoping rebel veterans come with an improved e-wing or some sort of -pt cost title or modifications to improve it to where it resembles it's pt cost. Just like the A-wings got.

Thoughts?

Yeah, everyone goes for Corran Horn because his ability is quite strong.

Generic e-wings are not bad, but the few times people have tried them, they probably did poorly and never looked back.

Blackmoon w/ R7 + FCS is not a bad buy for 33 points.

Flechette torpedo + R3A2 is also a nice way to double stress someone without double stressing yourself (with munitions failsafe, maybe more than once per game too).

With Tie Defenders poised to make a comeback, the e-wing does have the advantage of 3 agility (not many rebel ships have that). Its nice because it gives you the best chance of not getting hit by the ion cannon (and perhaps tractor beam) that will see more play if TIE defenders become popular.

What the e-wing and the T-65 could really benefit from is some new droids. Would be nice if it were possible to design one or two with abilities that really helped these two ships without offering much to the y-wing or T-70 (because they are both already in a good place, balance-wise).

Corran + R2D2/Engine Upgrade/FCS/PTL

has been a ton of fun and quite durable. usually my last fighter on the board and deals the most damage. I've debated a Corran and Ethan Abaht build..but it would be a very limited build.

E's and A's are my favs, but the E's have been way more viable for me.

Any of the Es can do solid service. I'm a big fan of Etahn with VI/FCS/Hull. It's not overly expensive and it can make the other ships I bring quite scary.

Everyone and their granny loves Corran. Except me. Too many times I've had the dice bite me in the arse when using his double tap ability. And when you can't shoot next turn? It ain't pretty. Though YMMV.

The thing with Corran is, You can usually get the "first blood" with focus fire from your ships and a double tap to finish off the target, with the extra target lock to help.

Double tapping is great, it saves you a round of that enemy shooting. Next round, you are maneuvering to double tap another target, while controlling with Ion + stress.

I've actually just put together a control list to support Corran here.
