One of the presents I received this Christmas was the new X-Wing starter set. I would like to build a Dark Side list. Any advice?

Tie/fo expac gives you everything you need to play a powerful FO

Omega Leader (Juke + Relay)

Zeta Leader (proxy Predator)
Omega Squadron (proxy crackshot)

then two tie fighter expansions, one for Howlrunner (proxy crackshot) and one for proxied Wampa (use black squadron pilot)

otherwise, you can run a less efficient but still fun

Zeta Leader (juke + relay)

Epislon Ace (nothing)

with 3 Tie/fo expacs, which will later let you run 3 Omega Squadrons with Juke + Relay, which are quite powerful

For a little more then the price of a F/O Tie, you could get an Imperial Aces pack online.

imperial aces require at least the starviper by way of additional investment, and they aren't nearly as splashable as the excellent FOs are

plus, "a little more" = "double"

it's $30 retail, which exactly equals two FO packs except the two FO packs contain all useful pilots while aces contains two

oh, yeah...I buy almost exclusively on Amazon where the F/O is $13 and aces would be $20. I forget sometimes that not everyone does that.

$10 for FO on Miniature market and $20 for aces; same thing

I've only looked at Miniature Market a few times. When I did; the shipping was crazy. I was going to buy another core set when they were on sale a few weeks ago and the shipping was $13. I have Amazon Prime so I get free shipping on there.

MM has less than 6$ shipping option with USPS. It maybe slow but if you don't rush works great.
