CR-90 rear arc defense

By Starshiph, in X-Wing

Guys,

How many times have you been in an epic game, and a fighter has gotten on the tail of your nice big blocade runner and refused to leave?

I hate that so I give you:

Sabine Wren!

She lets you toss cluster mines out the rear airlock and protect your backside!

Thoughts?

It's good, but only a single bomb usage. I might suggest Proton Bomb for best effect.

Part of the problem with being behind the CR-90 is that you move before it does. You don't know where it's going to go and it's hard not to ram it. Will it go 1 forward? Or faster? Or a turn? I've seen a number of ships misjudge and even ram themselves into the rear!

I still think the best defense is having a fighter screen cover you.

So you just took up a crew slot.

and took expensive bombs

to deal with situation that shouldn't have happened if you were cautious.

Will it go 1 forward?

It won't xD

It will if it wants all the energy to bring it's shields back up....or then use Ionization Reactor. You go 1 forward to get more energy. Make sure they are now within R1 of your rear. Ionize them....and watch them ram your rear next turn.

it CAN'T 1 forward)

Corvette is too goddamn fast to make 1 forwards xD

Dang, you are right!

According to the old X-wing computer game, that spot is classically the corvette's blind spot; and to quote Warpman

to deal with situation that shouldn't have happened if you were cautious.

just keep banking and healing, you'll catch those imps with the turret eventually

Thought about that, but unfortunately it doesn't work. The Extra Munitions card is never discarded, so Ordnance Tubes won't protect it or the bombs. You would get a second bomb, but you're paying way to much for it (7 points!) unless you just happen to be bringing Ordnance Tubes for the missiles/torpedoes, then you're only paying 2 for a second bomb.

Remember, her extra damage ability works on any friendly bomb anywhere on the board, so Sabine might still work in the 'Vette, if you have other bombers in your fleet for her to buff. I recommend trying Proton or Ion on the 'Vette, you don't want to give up actions for mines, and epic ships move last anyway :). Then you're also freeing up some of your escort that was protecting the rear (probably still want at least 1 ship there, even Proton is only doing Hit+Crit).

You might also want to measure, will a 1 bank clear your own Proton bomb? Huge ships don't move as far as little ones.

Just take cluster bombs. Use escorting fighters for rear section defense.
