Rexler Brath Questions

By Clutterbuck, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Rexler Brath: After you perform an attack that deals at least one damage card to the defender, you may spend a focus token to flip those cards face up.

Question 1: Do you execute the text on the newly face up cards? That is to say, Major Explosion, for example, commands you to roll a die and respond accordingly. Does a card Rexler flips up carry out its effect. It seems obvious that a static effect (all your straights are purple, for example) would be in effect, but the ones that command an action and then do nothing - do you do that action?

Question 2: Rexler deals, among other things, a critical damage. The damage card is dealt, and it commands some effect, and then instructs that it be turned over. Is the timing such that, after the effect takes place and the card is turned face down, Rexler kicks in, tosses a focus to his effect, and can now flip it back face up?

Thanks for your help.

Question 1: Do you execute the text on the newly face up cards?

Yes, you do. You essentially treat them as if they were just freshly dealt out of the damage deck.

Question 2: Rexler deals, among other things, a critical damage.....

Yep, he can totally do that.

He's kind of amazing

Yes and yes.

So it is possible for you to attack with him, land a crit, which happens to be major explosion. The major explosion triggers, dealing another major explosion, which also triggers dealing a direct hit. Then Rexlar's ability flips the two major explosions back up, both of which trigger again and get more direct hits. 8 points of damage from a single crit result. EXTREMELY unlikely, but possible.

Someone once figured out it was possible for him to "one" shot a decimator with cluster missiles.

Assuming that the crit is landed...

2/33 (2 major explosions in a 33 card damage deck)

x 3/8 (odds of rolling a Hit)

x 1/32 (1 major explosion remaining in a 32 card damage deck)

x 3/8

x 7/31 (7 Direct Hits in a 31 card damage deck)

=21 / 349184

Approximately 6 out of 100,000

Another Rexler question: Who wins out: Chewbacca or Rexler? Do they go onto Chewbacca, then Rexler flips them back over, or does Rexler try to flip them, and Chewbacca says, "nope"?

Rexlar. The cards are dealt face down, that is what Chewie cares about, then Rexlar flips them face up and there is nothing Chewie can do about that.

Purple maneuvers?

Did I miss a meeting?

I was wondering about that too.

So you're saying there's a chance... ;)

I was wondering about that too.

Thanks for the help in this thread.

Right. Here it is, having reverse-engineered it last night.

Rexlar Brath with Opportunist and Clusters will be attacking with 7 attack dice.

The Decimator has 4 shields and 12 hull

So, Brath needs to take out that 12 hull with the 3 dice remaining after shields.

That requires that the top 7 cards of your damage deck are Direct Hit and Major Explosion, with the Major Explosions both being in the top 4.

In other words, one of these 6 configurations: MMDDDDD, MDMDDDD, MDDMDDD, DMMDDDD, DMDMDDD, DDMMDDD.

The odds of that particular set of deck-stack happening are: 6 / (33!/(2!*7!*24!))

I leave the odds of rolling 3 damage on the first attack, and 1 damage + 3 crits on the second attack, with a spare Focus Token (Fleet Officer) and the Jonus Bonus to someone else.
