How to Bring New Players into X-Wing

By DirbYh, in X-Wing

It comes down to Free Swag.

It started when an older player gave me his core set X-Wing for free since he wanted to go Imperial only. Since then, I decided to spread the love.

Recently I got a new kid to buy the Force Awakens Core Set bc I gave him one of the original core sets for free. However, ill admit the motive is partially selfish.

I bought 2 core sets when the game came out bc cheap ships, extra templates and dice.

However, with the release of the Assault Carrier, that would give me 10 TIEs. Most would not have a problem with this, but I've set myself an arbitrary limit of no more than the number off ships I can fit into a 100 point list. Partially OCD (non-clinical), mostly bc I only have so much room in my tackle box, so some limit must be enforced, or things will get out of hand.

So gave away a Core Set bc I had too many TIEs. Now I have a different problem: I'm going to buy 2 copies of Imperial Veterans when I already have 3 Defenders.

I'm going give away 1 copy of the original defender and bomber to a new player that buys 1 of the Veterans packs. However, the catch is I'm going to keep the generic pilots, since I want them for completionist sake and they shouldn't mind since low pilot skills don't work we'll with ordinance and arch dodgers anyway.

I will do the same for them with Imperial Aces, two free Interceptors if they buy the Aces pack, but I keep the 18 and 20 point pilots (I bought 2 Aces and 1 expansion).

Maybe not the best way, but free ships is free ships.

Give the game away to friends and family.

Play in public places like Library, Game Store, coffee shops. Will draw attention and get a few laughs and some real interest as well.

Our gaming group does the same.
