Lone Wolf, just not feelin' it...

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

I've yet to get it to work for me, I think it's just the way I fly, I like to converge ships on targets to bring guns on, can help it.

In the right hands it's an excellent ept however, try it out, if it doesn't fit your play style there's no shame in it.

Should be pretty strong on x7 Rexler. With PS8 and barrel roll he can arc dodge generics and lower tier aces, with six hit points, three greens, an evade and a re-roll he's not too worried about non-Whisper VI aces, and Soontir (always does a two-speed) and Wedge (flies an X-Wing) are reasonably predictable.

I'd expect TIE/x7s all to be using Juke, though...

Vessery will probably always use Juke or VI. As for the rest, the offensive re-roll isn't much worse that forcing them to use a token. You'll also need several other ships to either block the target to preven them from focusing, or hit it after the x7 has shot the token away. Juke wants you to run several ships, while Lone Wolf wants 2-3.

And then there's the defensive re-roll.

Flew Scum Kath with Lone Wolf the other week, the number of times it kicked in and saved her bacon was phenomenal.

It's one of those upgrades which really shines in 2-3 ship lists, but if you're taking more than that then you'll need to plan your movement carefully to make sure it kicks in often enough to be worthwhile. I think the Firespray was durable enough (with 10 health behind 2 agility) to get plenty of return from it. Regenerating T-70's will likely be another very good candidate.

You certainly have to build around it. You can't just throw it on a random ship because you have 2 points left. It also takes more practice than almost any other EPT to get to work. Thinks to remember:

-The ship, or list its on even, shouldn't care about flying in formation

-Make sure you have 3 ships or less

-(most important) Don't put yourself in a terrible position just to make it work

-Practice. You really have to account where that ship and all other friendlies will end

Predator is a simple and more forgiving substitute usually.

Rexler Brath /w x7, Lone Wolf and Stealth Device.

All for 40pts?

Go home.

Again, Juke probably better than Lone Wolf for this.

Definitely not with Stealth Device. You'll want the defensive re-roll for this, as well as a focus action (whereas the juker is more likely to want to target lock).

Assuming those actions, a focused wolf at R2 scores 2,81 hits on average, while the locked juker gets 2,25. Then, there is a 3/8 chance on each die that Juke will force the defender to take a hit or spend a focus token. The problem is, sometimes they'll spend one anyway (when the defender rolls focuses, Juke does nothing), and if attacked by a higher PS ship, Rexler might want to spend his token, again making Juke useless. It's a great EPT, no doubt about that, but it isn't strictly better than Lone Wolf, Predator or Push the Limit.

Lots of PS 10+ in my local meta so not for me. :)

Same here. Hate teh acewing.

The other big advantage that Predator has is that it has over Lone Wolf is that it lets you reroll eyeballs on those turns that you don't have a focus to spend. Getting to reroll blanks is great but to really make Lone Wolf shine you need to be able to keep range from your friends and have a way to do something with those eyeballs. If either of those things isn't going to be happening much, Lone Wolf can be a bit lackluster.

Juke is at least as situational as LW especially with dudes like poe and fel or even Vader running around.

I actually love Lone Wolf on Vessery. When is Vessery least likely to use is Pilot Ability? The first turn when lower PS Target Locks have not been established for him and then after his Target Lock sources are dead. When is Lone Wolf easiest to activate? At the beginning of the game when you're closing to engage and at the end of the game when lots of your own stuff is dead. Even if Vessery doesn't need it offensively most of the time, it's got great value defensively.

Vessery, Stealth Device, Lone Wolf, x7 = 38 points

Offense: Target Lock, Focus if you've still got it after the Aces attack you.

Defense: 4 green dice, re-rolling a blank, plus an Evade, and maybe a Focus. Even once the Stealth Device is broken, 3 AGI with a blank re-roll and an Evade protecting 5 hit points is super-tough.

My Corran loves Lone Wolf.

Okay, it's not bad, bit corran is really one of the few pilots that nearly always want to have Push the Limit. He wants to do green moves anyway because he also wants R2-D2.

I mean i don't say there are no other Corran builds, but at least 90% of the Corrans you see played have R2-D2 and PtL. From there on you mostly go Engine Upgrade and Fire Control System.

Although lately i have nearly always taken Sensor Jammer on him. Since TLT i prefer the extra durability. This limits TLT damage to 1-2 damage per turn which you can regenerate.
