Need info on Planet Vohai, collaboration also welcome

By EliasWindrider, in Game Masters

Hi all of my fellow GMs,

it's been several months since I last ran a session of my star wars campaign, but finally schedules are coming together and... I've got a game scheduled for Jan 2.

The basic subplot line (my players all have side stories associated with their obligations, this is one of them) is that the players have to work off a debt to "mythical crimelord" Emil Mola (Star Wars Keyser Soze, reference to the movie "The Ususal Suspects"), what the galaxy knows about Emil Mola was that he was a minor human crimelord that Jabba fed to the Sarlaac roughly 200 years ago but somehow the Mola Cartel has continued to thrive while still apparently under the control of Emil Mola ("in his belly you will learn a new definition of pain and suffering as you are slowly digested over the next 1000 years").

(two of) The PCs acquired their debt to Mola by interfering with the theft of a Blood Oath Dagger (with Mola's blood on it) by one of Mola's agents from Crev Bombassa http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Crev_Bombaasa on Pembric II. Their first task to work of the debt to Mola was to recover the dagger, which since they had a good relationship with Bombassa, they merely had to ask for it. The second task was to obtain a ysalamiri (for which they needed the assistance of Talon Kardre and had to run a mission for him), the next task (the Jan 2, 2016 session) is to obtain a Spaarti clone cylinder (I think you can see, where blood oath dagger + ysalamiri + cloning cylinder is going... Emil Mola needs a new body, but there is a plot twist), which they are being told is an experimental bacta tank, from Arkanian Microtechnologies http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Arkanian_Microtechnologies , whose main facility is on the planet Vohai http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Vohai

unfortunately this was about all I was able to get of wookieepedia

Vohai was a planet located within the Vohai system of the Outer Rim Territories , covered with industrial sites, that were interspersed with residential towers and parkland. The Vohai Unirail encircled the entire planet from pole to pole, two kilometers above the planet's surface. The Arkanian company Arkanian Microtechnologies 's head quarters were on Vohai.

Churhee's Riflemen often trained in the mountain setting of Vohai.

Appearances Edit

Despite my best efforts, I am unable to locate a copy of Star War Adventure Journal 15, and don't have time to read Legacy of the Force: Bloodlines, yes... I know that ALL of this (not just the legacy of the force stuff) is "legends" now but in my game I'm counting most "legends" material up to the end of RotJ as "cannon" (e.g. I've fiddled with dates a bit, so that Crev Bombassa has a minor presence/"summer home" on Pembric II in 0 ABY).

BTW I have the WOTC Dawn of Defiance, Gem of Alderaan hover train maps that I can use for the Vohai Unirail system, and I'm figuring on having my PCs to steal a scientist's/executive's code cylinder etc. from them on the Vohai Unirail.

One of my PCs, Andra, is a a "fixer" for Grondo the Hutt (That player is from out of town and can't make every session, but will be here Jan 2) and I can use that character to feed the rest of the party any little known/hard to come by info I want them to have. They also have a semi-mysterious benefactor/uber-slicer (one of the 5 best on Coruscant) "Ziggy," childhood human friend (fellow street rat orphan on coruscant) of another PC, Vaesha Tarn (hot blue female Twi'lek scoundrel pilot whose obligation sidestory involves being an unwilling holonet porn star thanks to revenge porn posted by her ex, Ka'rin Bel, a male blue twi'lek), and ziggy has been fighting a digitial war to purge the Vaesha-Ka'rin holovid from the holonet. And Ziggy is the key to open any door that I want the PCs to be able to go through.

Unknown to the PCs, Ziggy also needs a new body, and he wants Ka'rin Bel's body because he wants a romantic relationship with Vaesha, fantasizes about "riding off into the sunset" living happily ever after with her. Yes Ziggy is a bit deluded about his chances with Vaesha but because of the B'omarr monks http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/B%27omarr_Order/Legends that's actually "possible" in the star wars universe. And unknown to the PC's (though they might suspect it, there are only so many uber slicers in the galaxy, and they know that Mola has the assistance of one of them) Ziggy and Mola are working together towards their common goal of getting new bodies with the paid assistance of the B'omarr monks.

BTW: Ziggy also has a rather dastardly punishment (for hurting Vaesha) intended for Ka'rin Bel... putting his brain in the brain-dead body of another female twi'lek whose life Ka'rin ruined by revenge porn and then selling her to a Hutt, _Ziggy_ figures that this is poetic/ironic justice that "fits the crime." yes Ziggy is a little demented/twisted but he's dying (may have a year or so left) and is making a final bid/bet to get everything he ever wanted in life.

so I think that's all the relevant info for the next adventure. So can I get some suggestions on other encounters/plot elements for this session?

Oh and I use maps+minis for my games, and I haven't made a final map selection for this session yet

Do you have a CBR reader on your computer?

Do you have a CBR reader on your computer?

Yes Sumatra PDF (which reads a lot more than just PDFs), thanks for the PM

so planning for the adventure... spitballing here... a back and forth (comments/suggestions) with suggestions would be appreciated.

so what I've got so far Baron Aalto Endel... who is a newly minted noble of House Cadriaan in the Tapani Sector , and the ranking Macander Heavy Ores executive and most influential sapient on the mining planet Aleron , and Mr. Mola's right hand man... has summoned the PCs to his top floor office on Aleron to give them their next mission for Mr. Mola. He's already briefed Andra to help her prepare for it.

Andra has already gotten Grondo the Hutt's (i.e. her employer's) approval, and even has an expense account from Grondo for the mission, he wants to keep Endel happy and he wants to keep his best agents (the PCs) alive and well, depending on the amount charged to the expense account, this may/may-not count as one of the favors that Grondo owes the PCs.
Andra has a contact, a bothan (spynet agent) named Rashk Ursi'ag who (via his contacts) can get them schematics and a level 3 (therefore also opens levels 1 and 2 security doors) code cylinder for the Arkanian Micro facilities that they need to infiltrate. Andra knows that Rashk's primary area of expertise is the Black Sun crime syndicate. In exchange for the code cylinder and schematics Rashk wants a datachip with everything that Grondo (i.e. Andra) knows about Black Sun's dealings (particularly those involving Durga the Hutt, http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Durga_Besadii_Tai ). Grondo has "signed off" on this transfer of info.
Since Rashk is a Bothan, Andra naturally don't trust him, but from her 1 or 2 previous in person dealings with him she's gotten a feeling that "something" might be off about him, that he might be "less trustworthy" (is that possible?) than a "typical" bothan spynet agent. (I've sent an email to this effect to Andra's player) So she's decided to step up her usual level of paranoia/precautions. (to be determined by the player, why I gave him the heads up)

Of course, Rashk doesn't trust her either, but he wants Andra's Black Sun intel, so he's chosen to meet in a public place with reasonably good security/weapons screening, i.e. on the Vohai unirail http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Vohai_Unirail .
Actually, the meet is a set up, Black Sun has turned Rashk so he's now a double agent working for them, and Black Sun wants to know what info Grondo the Hutt (i.e. Andra, she's a top tier "shadow chess"/intrigue player, close to Palpatine level of intrigue but with different interests and focus... criminal/moneymaking rather than galactic political power) has on Black Sun's operations in Hutt Space. Black Sun wants to either turn or kill Andra (either recruit a top tier intrigue player for their team or eliminate her as a rival player) and wants to kill the rest of the PCs, Black Sun figures (correctly but without proof) that the PCs are probably the ones responsible for Black Sun losing their foothold on Aleron and Grondo via Baron Endel getting a monopoly on illicit goods there (law enforcement avoids targetting Grondo's clan's people and targets any and all competition).
So the PCs will be walking into a trap on board the Vohai unirail, I expect that some of the PCs may be waiting as backup in a room on the car one over from the meet, they're going to be locked in that room *by ZIGGY* whose sliced the unirail's survelliance/controls, while black sun muscle passes by and takes control of the meeting car, then ZIGGY having hacked their comms will make contact with the PCs and guide them through the combat... in particular the PCs already in the meeting car will be on their knees with guns to their heads, the rescue PCs will be one car "BEHIND" that car with the doors between cars locked by ziggy, ziggy will momentarily slam on the breaks, throwing the black sun muscle off balance, and opening the door so that the rescue PCs can come rushing in with the advantage. Much Black sun muscle will die, Rashk will slap a small explosive on the lock of the door at the front of the train to open it (because ziggy has locked it) and then their will be a running blaster fight as they move towards the front of the train/unirail, ziggy will slam close some doors, accelerate/decelerate the train to throw the remaining black sun muscle off balance until only Rashk is left, and he'll get trapped by a locked door and Andra will catch up to him, get the code cylinder and schematics, just when Rashk starts laughing and points out the window at some combat air speeders pointing their repeating blasters through the transparisteel... just when they about to mow down Andra/any other PCs with them, the train will break suddenly so that Rashk takes the hit instead, but then the air speeders will target the now without much cover (roof blown off) PCs and when things seem just about lost, the PCs' ship without anyone on board piloting it (ziggy sliced it's slave system) takes out the combat air speeders... and the ramps lowers, as it holds steady next to the speeding unirail, giving them an egress... they don't want to stick around until the authorities show up and have to answer questions.
Then ziggy reveals that he has been working for Mr. Mola, a quid pro quo, the PCs may not be able to deal with Ka'rin Bel (whose under the protection of Zordo the Hutt) but the Mola Cartel has no such restriction (technically true but not the whole story), and he's the one who convinced Mola to let the PCs work off their debt rather than kill them by strongly suggesting that Mola would much rather to continue to have me (ZIGGY) as an ally rather than an enemy, I mean who else would protect Mola from other uber slicers who could drain this long list of bank accounts with a few keystrokes. What is ZIGGY doing for Mola? he can't tell them, there's a non-disclosure clause which if broken would void their agreement.
Then they start to plan the heist at Arkanian Micro, which has a closed security system, so ZIGGY needs the PCs help in getting his micro drones (tiny droids that look like grass hoppers) into the facility so he could tap into the closed system, so that he could then open any doors that their code cylinder could not/and otherwise control the security system.
so do any of you have any suggestions to improve the rough outline of the session.

I figure that these Dawn Of Defiance Gem Of Alderaan Maps could be useful to the community, sized for printing on 17 by 11 inch paper (you may need to shrink to page so that there is a margin)

BTW: office max prints single sided color 11x17 sheets for $1.25 plus the cost of paper which is $0.10 for regular "text" paper or $0.45 for "cover" paper (this is heavy duty poster style paper, 80 lb thickness... card stock [the stuff of business cards] is 110 lb thickness, so cover is still flexible [could be rolled into a poster tube if needed but with 11x17 in sheets you don't need to roll it] "paper" rather than stiff "card board")... I had been printing on "text" paper until I printed the Gem of Alderaan maps above (2 days ago) but this time the associate asked be about paper choice and I went with "cover" just to see what it's like and that's what I'll be printing my 11x17in on in the future... maps for use with minis tend to be 34 by 22 in so a 2x2 array of 11x17 in sheets is a pretty good compromise/sweetspot in ease of portability vs. ease of use trade off.

A while back I downloaded a whole bunch of maps from the "holocron" that people had made for use with the WOTC star wars miniature game. BTW I uses maps and minis with FFG star wars and the rule of thumb that I go by is that any where on the same 11x17 sheet is short range (a player asked that and I said "sure" and it's worked well), basically it costs 1 maneuver to travel 1 sheet or within 1 sheet... expounding to move 2 sheets over it costs 2 maneuvers, 3 maneuvers to move 3 sheets, etc. which lets you back calculate range bands.

this NovaCOREkeleriumprocessingplant_zpsbbdaa

is the largest map I've printed at 34 inches (2 sheets in the 17 in direction) wide and either 5 or 6 sheets (in the 11 inch direction) tall. but I left I think a half inch on all sides border white space that I trimmed with scissors. (before printing I used Gimp to trim the boarder from the image, the squares on the catwalks are about 1 inch by 1 inch in the printed map)

BTW I just got a massive coffee table (thanks to my wife for being ok with that, I love you sweetheart) that should be (haven't tried it yet) barely large enough to hold that whole NovaCore map at the same time.. previously my group had been meeting at the FLGS in Albuquerque NM, Active Imagination.

Oh and my favorite quote from the session was an out of character comment about my new coffee table: "that's not a coffee table, it's a dinner table for hobbits." And you know what, considering how much hobbits like to eat, that's an accurate description... the coffee table is wide and long enough to be a good sized dinner table... but the height of it puts it at a level hobbits sitting in small chairs would find appropriate
