An encounter moves you to a new space - do you encounter it?

By JemyM, in Talisman Rules Questions

You roll the die, you move to a space, you encounter the space, and some card or effect move you to another space... can/do you also encounter the new space?

For instance, after defeating the Eagle King, taking a relic, can you move your character to a Pool of Wisdom on the main board and pick a Craft from it before ending your turn? You fall through a trap door to the Dungeon Entrance, already occupied by another character, can you attack that character before ending your turn? You just met your Destiny at the end of Woodlands and your path allows you to move to the Warlocks Cave, can you pick a quest there before ending your turn? You are defeated by a Roc who drops you at the Mountain Pass, where there is a Cloud Dragon - do you have to fight it before ending your turn? A Harpy drags you to the crags - do you need to roll for the Crags before ending your turn? You pass through the Oberon's Gate and since you're lightbound another player place you on a Firelands Token in a Plains space on the main board - should you also draw a card there before ending your turn?

If you are defeated (or have a stand off) your turn ends. If you won (or was just moved because of another effect) you encounter the space (or character) as normal.

I think the official FAQ covers this, you should have a look.

This is one of the 1st rules I learned here and brought to my gaming group.

We briefly discussed what to do if you were defeated by Roc and dropped on crags on which we had a firelands token. We agreed that as your turn ended when you were defeated and the character didn't lose another life. On the other hand that character only had one life left after his encounter with the Roc and we tend to be nice to characters having a hard time.

Is this by the rules or when are you actually defeated? Before or after being dropped on Crags?

Losing to the Roc would see you moved to the Mountain Pass and then have your turn immediately end without encountering the space. The Fireland Token only requires a character to end their turn in the same space to lose 1 Life, they do not need to encounter the space to feel the burn from the token. You would lose to the Roc, move to the Mountain Pass, and then lose 1 Life to the Fireland Token as your turn ended immediately after the move.

If you were killed by the Roc, which space does your equipment end up on? :)

Your equipment would remain with the Roc. It drops you into the Mountain Pass after you lose a life, which it cannot do if your character is killed and no longer in play.
