So how long do we have to be careful about spoilers?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

Well I finally saw it after Christmas. I think by New Years there will be no need to push spoilers behind spoiler tags such as below (which does contain a real spoiler do not click)

Han Solo dies

So do we have to keep the spoilers hidden after New Years? What do you think?

I'm in the boat where my girlfriend pimped out for the vip treatment but couldn't get seats till the 29th. Being a woman and therefore not quite understanding the importance of digesting the new material ASAP she though this was ok and I'm certainly not going to throw the gift back in her face so I for one would certainly appreciate a heads up in any spoilers for a few more days at least!

What does being a woman have to do with anything?

My daughter is taking me to see it later today for my Christmas gift. I would give everyone until next weekend before freely mentioning spoilers.

How about you use spoilers only in appropriate threads? It isn't even out in the whole world yet.

Give it at least until it has left the theaters.

Oh, and in the off topic forum, where it belongs.

I told everyone in my shop the moratorium is over. One week wait was long enough to keep watching what you say.

As for in this forum, it seems unwise to even bring up the movie. Both side of the love hate viewers have strong beliefs for and against it here.

I will stick with discussing Xwing.

But Im sure there will be a snide comment with just expressing this view.

Allot of haters in here.

'Til DVD release, I say.

I don't really understand threads like this. Why is it such a big deal to some people to keep discussions that involve movie spoilers to threads that have "Spoiler" clearly labeled in the thread title, for at least until the end of January? I mean, what is the scenario where that simple courtesy is an unreasonable request?

That aside, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of this forum. I was among those who didn't want to be spoiled of anything before watching the movie, to the point where I didn't even watch the trailers. This community was exceptionally cooperative and respectful, which allowed me to thoroughly enjoy the movie two days ago with all surprises intact, despite the fact that I lurk on these forums multiple times each day.

So sincerely, thank you all.

I don't think we can openly talk about how chewie was a female twi'lek in a fur suit all along for a few more weeks yet.

Or how the new super star destroyers are powered by burning gungans to death.

In the new year we can all discuss how shocked we were to discover ewoks have taken over the republic.

This guy is single.

She bought him a gift. If he said something dumb like "We have to go sooner so my forum buds don;t have to spoiler things" he'd get a smack. That's what he means by "woman thing", that thing where if you're a dumbass your wife lets you know. That woman thing.

Anyways, it's like I was saying to the boys the other day when they were talking about the movie. Someone looked over at me and another fellow who I was playing a match with and asked if we'd seen the movie yet. I said no and so did my opponent and then they were oh we'll talk about something else, no spoilers right. I explained to them that if they had all seen the film then there was no reason they couldn't talk about it. I said that I hadn't seen the movie yet and if they wanted to talk about Star Wars then they could, it's up to me to make sure I get to seen the movie unspoiled. I mean, that's just basic human decency right? If they wanna talk about a film, go ahead, just don't be yelling about it so everyone can hear! I'll try to tune you out and won't barge in on your convo to tell you to watch the spoilers, and you talk normally and don't be a ****. Everything will be okay. I promise.

I seriously do not understand how this can be such a big deal. There is no reason to go around wrecking the movie for anyone, at any point along the line, and there is no point trying to shush anyone either.

If you haven't seen Scarface yet I'm not going to spoil it for you, but I'm also not gonna go out of my way to protect the plot of a 40 year old movie. It's amazing really, how hard it is for people to grasp basic concepts about society.

TLDR anyways, but I wanted to add this. I also really despise this attitude that one has some kind of responsibility to see films, so that other people can talk about them. That is so... disgustingly snotty I can't even think straight. I can just imagine some fedora wearing scarf twirler saying something like that and I imagine myself punching that greasy sweater vest wearin' fool and his fedora into next week.

A good month sounds good.

Ive finally seen it, so we are good to go!!!

LOL!

It's still in theaters. Is putting spoiler in a thread title that hard? A month is fine soft limit for me though especially on a fan page like this.

Personally, I've told those around me it'll be January 1st. Or since I'm pretty anti-social/not responsive that day... probably January 2nd. Some folks in the local gaming community had to wait until around Dec 24-26 to go with their assorted family members, and I totally respect that. They wanted to go earlier, but family rules dictated otherwise.

Greece just got it in Dec 24, and India, Pakistan, and Cyprus on Dec 25. The only country where it hasn't been released yet is China, who's getting it on January 9th.

I would ask people to consider folks with access to Internet but not to a movie theater ...

I.e., military folks away from home.

So, say Spoiler until the DVD is out, please

I think you missed what WonderWaaagh was saying. Plenty of women understand the hype of seeing Star Wars asap.

Also I recall that he's married.

Could be mistaken though.

Until the end of time. Because SOMEONE SOMEWHERE who hasn't seen it yet will fly into a rage and destroy everything and everyone we hold dear if you spoil it.

It will be in theaters for months.

So then a few months then. Putting spoilers in the title or using the spoiler tag is easy.

It's just a courtesy to fellow fans.

But I want to mention how midechlorians have spread to machines and all targeting computers have rebelled refusing to fire anything but teddy bears at the enemy.

I figure to be especially careful until into next year but after that I think some things may slip depending on how they come up. It may not be open as long in other parts of the world as that could requires a little bit of apology. For those without a way to watch it but easy internet access I'm afraid you may be caught in a catch 22; you've got access to too much information but not the piece you are looking for most.

Two weeks is plenty of time to see the film.

If you haven't by that point then you probably don't care enough to worry about said spoilers.

If you haven't seen the film yet and do care about spoilers then avoid places like this forum. That's what I did for a few days until I saw it.
