GOOD GOD RAIDER

By That One Guy, in X-Wing

Scum does have the Firespray, Houndstooth, and IG-88.

I played one game with the Raider. I enjoy its many attacks per round. However, if it's the last remaining ship and you allow enemies to get behind it, game over.

the same is true for pretty much every Epic ship.

While IG-88 does last long, the other ships aren't bad. I wouldn't recommend the high points guys, but especially generic YV-666's are worth their points for the amount of shots it takes to burn through them. Also, 2 Evade on the Firespray isn't so bad in Epic. It's low on the threat level and can evade some shots, especially with Recon Spec.

I think Epic with a bunch of large based ships and small based ships should do alright.

You could just have a rule that SCUM brings two Large Ships...

IG-2000 is the Scum huge ship.

YUP...

Dats why you play EPIC and not X-Wing +.

If you are going to use the Raider with the new cards, might I suggest the Raider title Instigator with Automated Protocols? If you do an action that isn't a re-inforce or a restore, you get 2 free shields back. If you are taking heavy fire, you don't want to do that, but if you aren't, it's a good way to get your shields back up.

Moff Jerjerrod is really good in Epic as he can get rid of one of those nasty, nasty epic crits.

Ion Torpedoes are great against enemies that are close together. You can hit a bunch and let your escort take them out or you can hit some and head the other way to avoid some extra shots for a round.

I've found I generally like Sensor Team to give the TL boost. That way your main guns can destroy something at R4. That can be one small ship per round, usually. Also not bad if you take one Single Turbo Laser. I've seen X-wings crap out on green dice. This is especially good if your opponent likes to take special ships that give bonuses. You know, the key enemy ship that you need to take out fast? Give them a TL and hit them with 2 main gun attacks and a Single Turbo Laser before they get close. Howlrunner can die before she helps at all.

If you want to go with Ordnance Tubes, you can go with Weapons Engineer, Impetous title, and Homing Missiles. No energy to fire. You get 2 TL per turn. If you kill a ship, you get more TL's.

I do need more practice with the Raider. I've played more with the CR-90, but prefer the Raider. I was able to get a CR-90 to try a close range broadside. It didn't go well for the CR-90.

Oops, I think I forgot to mention in my OP that I did have the Impetuous title. However, being very new with the Raider, and Huge ships in general (first time flying one) I uh… i sorta… forgot… to use it each time. *ahem*

HEY DON'T JUDGE ME. :)

Also I did try a broadside against the CR-90. It didn't go well for me. But again, the dice luck was not good. I blanked 95 percent of my dice. Maybe 3 hit results out of 2 primary attacks, 1 turbolaser, 1 ion cannon battery (however, the quad laser cannon did well against the K-Wing to the starboard aft). With the reenforce action they took on the only section I could shoot at (shooting at the rear would mean shooting at Biggs instead, thanks to the unique position of ships and firing arcs) and the fact that there was an obstacle that both of us gained the use of for every shot made, I landed 1 single point of damage in the entire round. By the same token, despite the fact that I rolled the evade successfully for range (primary weapon) and obstacle (secondaries) I lost all shields, and took 7 damage to the fore section in just that one round. What made it go beyond unlucky to genuinely frustrating was the fact that i had two rerolls for every secondary I fired thanks to Jonus, and my opponent only had rerolls on one single attack (target lock). Blanks, blanks, focuses and blanks, as far as the eye could see. If it wasn't for the fact that the Single Turbolaser can change 1 focus to a hit, then I wouldn't have put any damage on the CR-90 at all. Honestly, it was the kind of game where you wonder why you even bothered to drive out somewhere at all, because apparently Fate is gonna play the game how it wants no matter what you do.

So, I bought my raider today and got to have an epic game with it.

I flew Jonus in close escort, used Vessery to bait Farlander and Wedge into an asteroid corridor, used the single turbolasers as support for Vessery, Backstabber and Dark Curse. My opponent didn't bring much in the way of Ion ships, and the ones that he had were tied up dealing with some other ships. I killed one ship per round. In order, it was one of the new T-70 pilots (the one who treats red maneuvers as white ones if not stressed), then Farlander, then Wedge, then Corran Horn. Luke and his turret friends along with Jake Farrel were taking longer to eliminate Alozen and some particularly lucky Black Squadron guys. I lost only Jonus and Alozen by the time my opponent conceded.

Even in the 130+ points range, good god does the Raider pull its weight.

If you really want to see ULTIMATE POWER, then have Rexlar/hlc along for the ride. Give him ptl and use Tarkin to give him an extra focus...so so awesome. Just murder those enemy huge ships...

Didn't have Rexler that time, I was trying to use some guys I don't normally use. When Squad building, I'd originally intended to use Impetuous to aid Colonel Vessery.

Not when my Raider boosts then moves straight over them. Chiraneau giving it that final push and Needa just ignoring any damage.

For that build I should have a little license plate made up.

Fore- single Turbolasers, engineering team

Aft- ion cannons, quad lasers, Needa and Jerjerrod

At 300 pts, escorted by Darth Vader, Juno Eclipse and Lt. Colzet (all with X1 title and ATC), plus 5 assorted TIEs.

Opponent flew Millenium Falcon (Chewie), Dash Rendar, Nera Dantels, Poe Dameron, Biggs, Garvin Dreis, Wedge, and Jake Farrell. He probably shouldn't have used both the Falcon and Outrider. As I recall, he put Han & Luke on the Falcon, and Kyle Katarn on the Outrider. I don't remember his exact layout of upgrades.

I know the Raider finished off the Falcon and Outrider both in a turn (after they were softened by TIEs), and he exhausted all his ordnance without managing to penetrate the Raider's shields.

In the end, I lost 3 TIEs in exchange for annihilating everything he brought.

Oh man, wouldn't it be funny if you somehow managed to get Oicunn with Dauntless behind a CR-90? Ram, damage. then focus or TL. Ram, damage. Action. Keep doing it. He's the only ship that can do all that. And if you're directly behind the Huge ship, there's no turn it can take to crush you. Usually ships that are forced to keep ramming the back of the CR-90 will get range 1 shots but no modification. But Oicunn would actually benefit from this, since he could deal damage with both his ram and his attacks, and still maintain actions. Obviously, you'd need other fighters present to keep him clear. But it's just really funny to think about.

That's what they get for loading up on named pilots in Epic.

Crabs that get stomped are badly flown crabs

May as well ask here. The ordinance expert team would effect the raider if it fired missiles or torps right? I assume the ships being within range 1 of themselves is true for huge ships?

Correct. And I have used them... Once per turn, but still so nice...
