Huge ships and starting energy

By Cactus, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I've read a few posts stating that the rules for huge ships have changed to allow them to start the game with a full complement of energy tokens. Where is this rule, or have I misunderstood what people are talking about?

For standard casual play (i.e. not missions where starting energy is specified) Huge Ships start with full energy on the ship card and all equipped secondary weapons - other cards that can take energy such as the Ionization Reactor do not start with any energy.

See the Epic Tournament rules page 3

NB - Epic Tournaments are described as casual play in the tournament booklet - so casual rules and tournament rules are effectively the same thing.

Thanks, that explains why I couldn't find it in the Raider, Gozanti or huge ship rules.

The only time you would not start with full energy is when playing a scenario based game that includes a starting restriction of some sort.

Yep - the various rulings for Epic play are currently spread across the individual rulebooks for each ship, the Huge Ship Rules, the Epic Tournament Rules, and the FAQ.

If we keep dropping hints to FFG that they need to streamline things, then they might get around to it at some point :)

This is something that seems to get increasingly more frustrating with each release. I think they need to rewrite the huge ship rules into a more comprehensive format that encompasses all the current huge ships and any future ideas they might have on the drawing board. And maybe stop coming up with new ideas that either break those rules, or require the addition of a new subset of rules. It's all these "extra" bits, and where to find them that seems to cause the confusion.

I can't help thinking there's a bit of chicken and egg going on - Epic play doesn't generate as much interest as the standard format, so FFG don't pay as much attention to the format, as a result of that Epic play doesn't generate as much interest ...... etc

Yeah, it's an endless loop alright.
