I have one of each core set. Is there any way using the Imperials from 2 core sets to beat a deck with Poe and Biggs with R2? I've been playing with 60-point squads and it seems pretty unbeatable.
Poe + Biggs + R2-D2
Came in expecting some pr0n fan-fiction, leaving more than a little frustrated and extremely disappointed.
Sounds tough.
I think howlrunner, academy and two epsilons might stand a chance. Biggs should be in danger after the first round of shooting, and you then race in an academy to block, and focus fire at closer range to get the kill. It will come down to luck, though, whether you lose howlrunner before it can shoot, in the first round. Gonna be hard to come back after that, I guess.
Or you could proxy the card 'crackshot', and run two black squadrons with it, plus 2 epsilons...
Howlrunner doesn't come with the core set.
2 epsilon so amd 2 academy ties, focusing down Biggs first (because you have too...)? You aren't going to beat Poe on pilot skill, but I suppose if you take some aces you might be able to beat Biggs. Do your best to stay out of firing arcs if possible, and do your best to guess where your opponent is going to go.
Core set only fights are dominated by R2-D2. You actually kind of can't beat this or similar squads with only a core set or two. Proxy some stuff/ban R2-D2.
Dark Curse and Night Beast are two really underrated TIEs from the first core. I'd ignore the FO's and pair them with Mauler Mithel and an Academy.
Dark Curse is really tough to kill (no offensive dice modification), Night Beast should be able to routinely have both a focus and evade token. Mauler throws 4 red dice at range 1, and he moves after Biggs. The Academy pilot has one of the best jousting values in the game... joust and block.
You can rip through Biggs pretty quickly and feel great about yourself... Then you get to spend the next 30 minutes or so suffering as Poe and R2 pick off your ships one by one.

Agreed. R2-D2 is really only balanced at you bring in more stuff that can really power through its regeneration.
I'd recommend grabbing a TIE Fighter pack so you can have Howlrunner, since she really upgrades the power of your TIE swarm.
You need someone like soontir or Vader who can punch harder than a basic tie.
If your playing at home buy a defender and proxy the new titles even a PS1 defender with an ion cannon poses a threat as they can't regenerate if they can't do a green.
