Y-wing Torp list help.

By Bbrawler, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I did a previous list using Z-95 homing missiles, Airen cracken with cluster missles. I did very well getting to a final store championship last year. And Store champ season is very close and I want to nail down a list!

So building a bit on the theme, Maybe Y-wings could work? Here's the bones of the list

Airen Cracken (19)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Extra Munitions (2)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
R2 Astromech (1)
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Extra Munitions (2)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
R2 Astromech (1)
Jake Farrell (24)
Push the Limit (3)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Total: 96
So there are 4 points left. I think the options are clusters on Airen cracken to hand out 2 actions to the Y-wings, Or go with Autoblaster turrets to give the Y-wing more life. I think jake is a good call here, but I'm not perfectly sold. I like the idea of Tarn with R7 and integrated astromech as a possible 4th ship, but other options are welcome.

If you want to go for the torpedo build, I think the one you have is sound, though I would put wired instead of veteran instincts on Cracken. We all know how Z's love K-turns! ;) .. And of course Cluster Missiles.
Love the ordinance builds!

Another option is to have bomb loadout on one of the Y wings and bring a conner net, or proximity mine and have a 1 point initiative bid.

I think 2 autoblaster turrets are your best option for the points. They add a lot of tactical options and flexibility that no other ship in your list has.

I had great success with Cracken with squad leader last year, but I think you could even drop VI to take xx-23 tracers. Those will be more helpful for acquiring TLs on the initial pass, but VI is a good option as well, as PS10 is always nice, even if it is only a Z95.

I also think there is a lot to be said for switching up the torpedoes. One plasma to take out shields and one proton to deal crits seems like a good way to invest one point as well. You should get some battle reports up! I am curious to see how it works out.

Thanks for some of the input. The plan is to get some early practice for some january store champs coming. I'll try to test the autoblaster variant, and then the cluster missiles. IT's difficult but alot of fun when cracken hands out 2 actions in one attack.

Hobbie with stresbot instead of jake, it will add some control to the game making targets more predictable and thus easier to focus down with the Ys. I'd also argue for dorsal turrets (when released) and possibly titles on the Ys to up their hitting power when Torps are gone.

Second thread tracers. It will enable the whole list. With tracers you could also drop Cracken to Blount to maximize use of the tracers, unless Cracken is central to your build, which would allow you to squeeze more points in there.

You have far more experience than I but I love Y wings and have looked at them extensively. I also love trying to make ordnance work. If it was me, I would be flying Horton and maybe Dutch. These guys love their torps. I would also equip at least autoblaster turret. I don't like y wings without turrets but at least R2 helps some. Haven't done the math but obviously you would have to trim points somewhere. Based on your prior experience, how likely is it that both Goldies will get 2 rounds of torps off before being removed from the board?

I agree with tracers, unfortunately I dont think it'll be released in time. When it does come out it should give the list more flexibility. Same with dorsal turrets they look very nice down the road. The combo of dorsal and titles are worth exploring.

I looked at horton and dutch, and the points just start to add up quickly, I feel I can't squeeze in a forth ship. I think 3 rebel aces, with 2 of them Y-wings just isn't enough. As for getting both torps off, I originally went to Y-wings for their durability. In the previous list the Z-95 were able to use homing missiles often, but they can go down quickly. I figure I may lose one Y-wing to a list like quad TLTs, worst case. Even then simultaneous firing would allow them to fire back. The 2 points for extra munitions I think would force the opponent to fly to avoid the torpedoes, that can be worth it for sure. it requires testing.

Although just goofing around this seems like a fun list to play down the road

Horton Salm (25)
Dorsal Turret (3)
Extra Munitions (2)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
R2 Astromech (1)
"Dutch" Vander (23)

R2 Astromech (1)
Esege Tuketu (28)
Dorsal Turret (3)
Recon Specialist (3)

I also agree with AB turrets. It helps you threaten high PS aces and other defensive type ships. I do like the PS 9 PTL Jake, but with AB turrets on your Ys, you could swap him out for a different ship if you liked. Besides, with VI Poe lurking around in a lot of Rebel lists, your PS 9 Jake w/o prockets is not going to be as effective. Tarn+R7+IA+Flechette Torps (27) fits in there nicely and gives you that one extra point to upgrade one of your Y's Plasma Torps to Proton Torps.

Now you have an answer to those agile aces, a mix of ordinance, and a solid defensive/offensive X-Wing escort with a small control element.

I think you just have to be open to the idea of adapting strategies depending on how and where your opponent is flying. If they have that agile ace (or two) you can threaten the bubble of doom with your Ys and leave your other guys back to cover them. As long as you are not dead set on getting your ordinance off every time and can stay as unpredictable as possible, I think you have a potent list.

So quick update. Tried out the list with Clusters. First against a navigator VI dash and 3 Zs. Went to time, would be a modified win. (I got some pics and will do a battle report alter). Next match was against a scum list of Guri (sensor jammer), Talonbane with glitterstim and clusters, and N'dru. It went very well, I cleaned up N'dru with cracken, and then talonbane with the plasma torps. Then managed to nail down guri later.

Last game was jan ors Hwk, gunner B-wing and Wedge, with BB-8 PTL. Lost pretty handily.

I amanged to get both plasma torps off for both Y's in the the first two games. last game I was not so lucky, some very good asteroid placement limited my movement. The plasma torps fired 5 times over three games and never rolled a focus. It was just brutal, the munitions need a re-roll to be really devastating. First impressions are the munitions just need more. Once the plasmas take the shields off they aren't that great. Also I used jake, and tried out wired for a filler EPT. I think its not that great, crackshot is just flat out better.

I think with thread tracers and the new guidance chip cards will make this list have some extra pop it needed.

Cracken with clusters, only got the double action attack off once, I think its a cool mechanic but too much is needed, I liked it better with Z-95s and homing missles. And autoblasters would have been great calue if I had them.
