Opinions on Custom Card Trays

By Ardaedhel, in Star Wars: Armada

So, I've started seeing custom card trays pop up in my area, and they pretty much all have this issue, so I expect it to come up eventually:

What are you guys' opinions using trays that hold cards (ships and upgrade cards) vertically, such that your opponent can't see them from across the table? My stance is, I don't have a problem with them in casual play, but I think it's reasonable to accommodate your opponent if they ask you not to use them in a competitive environment (tournament, league, etc).

Is that an unreasonable expectation? This is the only minis game I've ever played, so I'm keenly aware of my limited exposure to the etiquette of these kinds of games...

As a courtesy if I'm using that style of tray I always place it sideways along an "unused" table edge so both of us can see it. I would expect that courtesy as well. Seeing your opponents fleet is only fair.

I like that suggestion a lot, actually, thanks!

I don't have a problem with people using non-standard accessories as such--I do myself--unless it starts to have a material impact on the game.

That's why I use these
