Am I seeing what I want? Mara Jade in IA

By Aritheall, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

@Animewarsdude

Not saying you didn't hear that, but I can't believe that would be the case. The content in all the Star Wars games would be crippled if they were limited to purely canon sources (Force & Destiny could never exist in it's current form for example, nor would many X-Wing & Armada ships).

It's a possibility, but I really hope it's not true.

It is a rumor, I believe it was in the Asmodee business plan changes either the first or the second. That said it is a rumor I hope is untrue.

Following your lead, this is what I could dig up, but its dated last year. It says,

"How will FFG’s and Asmodee’s product lines be affected?

FFG’s new and existing product lines will continue to be developed by FFG and sold under the FFG logo. FFG will stay a fully independent publisher in the Asmodee Group, and intends to keep creating the best games possible."

Also, the inquisitors fit well into the lore established by Mara Jade. She came first, remember.

No its in one of these, which has spawned tons of discussion over on the X-wing forums about how products will be sold for Asmodee and FFG products.

In Imperial Assault there is a reason why the Royal Guard Champion isn't called Carnor Jax, so I think the likelyhood of we getting Mara Jade is very limited. And if we get her then it will be far into the future, as we got RotJ, Rebels and TFA+ep.8+9 to go through first.

Why are people so insistent that we follow the movies? Theres more to Star Wars than those and FFG has shown they know that fact.

Also, why are people so adamant that we get Episode 7,8,9 content? The game is called Imperial Assault... it takes place during the Galactic Civil War. Its Rebels vs Imperials. Not Resistance vs First Order. How many E-webs, royal guards, AT-STs, and probe droids did you see the First Order use? That is all Empire stuff.

Just noticed a "Mara Jade" looking female on the Balance of the Force skirmish card as well.

Not saying we won't get her, but just that the likelihood is very limited with so many canon items to be released before EU stuff comes on the board. Would love to get more Force Users to the Imperial side of the game and Mara Jade is an awesome character, but I think we will see the Inquisitors before her.

There are time periods in Imperial Assault, so naturally they will explore the different periods within the canon, as long as they have that option, and with so much great content still available within the canon it is only logic that it take time before they touch EU.

Especially if you take into consideration how Lucas Film/Disney is micromanaging everything in the Star Wars universe in regards to canon/EU. The Carnor Jax/Royal Guard Champion is a good example on how the naming have been changed as Lucas Film have pushed EU out of the way to limit its influence on games and naming.

So. Dumb question but...

If she is in xwing and IA, is she canon again?

Pretty sure she is still non-canon. I haven't seen or heard her referenced in anything that is now considered cannon.

I have to admit I have mixed feelings about putting her in the game. I love the character but I would prefer if they kept legends stuff out of the games as much as possible.

You do realize its already too late for that right?

I think there's a difference between unique, distinctly EU characters and things closely based off things in the EU and that they don't intend on doing the former. I would argue that the fact that the RGC is not Carnor Jax is evidence in favor of this. I wouldn't be bothered at all by bringing in Mara Jade but I would be somewhat surprised if it happened. What they might do is have an 'inquisitor' figure that basically looks like her but with a hood obscuring her hair and face.

Lets not split hairs here. If it looks like Mara Jade, smells like Mara Jade, and tastes like Mara Jade... it's Mara Jade.

They are already touching into the EU though with the examples I already gave. And if Disney is policing the EU into this game, they are doing a pretty poor job since we already have EU in it and other FFG games.

Not counting TFA (which I'll explain later why it can't be in the game some more) there is only a few expansions left FFG can squeeze out of movie content. Pretty much all we are missing is Lando, a few bounty hunters, scout troopers, and imperial navy troopers.

As for TFA, consider the time periods we have, 1 - 7. Darth Vader is 'alive' in time periods 1 through 6. Meaning TFA could only take place in time period 7. That means we'd be seeing a 30 year gap between time period 6 and 7. 30 years is longer than time periods 1 through 6 combined!

Hmm, lets see

Stormtroopers on dewbacks

Ithorian something

Aquilish criminals

Jawas

Navy Troopers

Imperial Moff character

Obi Wan

Rebel on Tauntaun

4-Lom/Zuckas

Bossk

Lando

Lobot

Ugnaughts

Bespin Trooper

Jabba

Twilek Major Domo

Gamorian Guards

Weequay Thugs

Scout Troopers

Scout Trooper on Speeder Bike

Endor Commandoes

Ewoks

Maybes

TIE Pilots

Rebel Pilots

Landspeeder

Rancor (maybe too big?)

Emperor

Plus, main characters at other timelines, so

Luke as full Jedi

Han as Rebel General

Lando as General

Leia as ... something other than "Rebel Commander"

A Moff? Really? I don't think you know what a Moff is. They're basically Governors. How much of a fight do you think a Governor (Schwarzenegger aside) can put up?

Speeder Bikes are too fast for IA.

The current Leia we have has no time period limits, this means this will be the only Leia we ever get.

You really think a Landspeeder will make a good combat vehicle? It's the equivalent of a car in the Star Wars universe.

We already discussed the Emperor. He is far too important to be on the front lines.

Same for goes for Jabba.

Obi-wan was in exile till A New Hope... how much do you think he helped the Rebellion? I bet Vader wouldn't be so surprised in episode 4 then!

Yes, a moff. In a minor skirmish like this, a moff is as likely to be present as a general. He would obviously be a support character of some sort, not a combatant. That's the only reason I think it might not happen, there are already a bunch of support figures.

If a translator droid can be included, saying something is a non-combatant isn't really an argument (and note, I said the land speeder was a maybe).

Leia you have a valid point, she didn't really change all that much during the course of the movies, so that one is kinda 50/50, depending whether they want to do another Leia, they certainly could.

But even accepting all those counter arguments, the at still leaves 22-25 more figures from the movies that they can do.

Calling it now we will get Moff Schwarzenegger who is part cyborg in a future expansion. :P

But only playable in time periods 1 and 7?

And an almost infinite number of EU figures they could make.

But, "nope they not in movies" is all I hear against those, which is a weak argument.

Given the appearance of Ghost, the Inquisitor and Agent Callus in X-wing, I've some vague hope we'll see some representation of the Rebels storyline in Imperial Assault, too. Kanan, Ezra and Ahsoka could add some more lightsaber fun, as could the Grand Inquisitor, Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother.

And an almost infinite number of EU figures they could make.

But you were making the argument that they will have to do EU stuff soon because they are almost out of OT content.

I think it is almost a given that we will eventually see a bunch of EU characters, just the time frame is questionable. Between a ton of OT movie stuff yet to do, Sequel Trilogy stuff they may (feel) compelled to do, Rebels, which is practically an IA campaign that is being animated, there is no shortage of material that they might want to do first.

Side note on Rebels. I love the show but I actually hope they hold off on doing IA Rebels stuff for a while. I think it would be a lot better if we have a more complete picture of the character arcs and story line for the show before doing an IA campaign based on the show.

I love the Rancor, myself. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch, considering we have wampas. I haven't the time to look up where Rancors come from (planet), but it would give the Skum a massive piece for skirmish, so that could be fun.

Edit: (derp, spaced on the banthas)

Yeah, I can't imagine that banthas would be viable but rancors wouldn't, but it would be a very large miniature.

I think they're indigenous to multiple planets, but if it's one place it's Dathomir.

It's not like we're mixing oil and water here though. FFG has already shown that they are putting EU content along with movie content.
