Conjurer's Prismatic Assault + Bard's Understudy

By Cursain, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Good morning,

In our campaign we've entered Act 2, and the first quest we played and finished was an Act 2 Rumour quest.

I feel bad for the OL at this time because we have a strong synergy working with the heroes. The bard in the group has strengthened the group due to his ability to regenerate stamina using Understudy. I'm here to ask/confirm that we're playing Prismatic Assault correctly.

If the mage is within three spaces of the bard, and uses Prismatic Assault; does each attack an image executes give the ability to spend a surge to regenerate stamina? If so, should we measure the extra stamina regenerated from Understudy from the mage figure or the image executing the attack?

I'm finding that I can easily max out my conjurer's stamina using Prismatic Assault, and then get it all back when attacking four times (if I have four images on the board) because I'm rolling one Blue, Red, Yellow and Green dice. Lots of extra surges laying around to spend.....

Thank you,

-Cursain

Edit: The conjurer performs the attacks- not the images. The location of the conjurer relative to the bard is all that matters for understudy- the location of images is irrelevant.

Since they are multiple attacks, the conjurer may spend a surge during each to recover a fatigue.

We've been playing it correctly then. Man, the poor OL has his work cut out for him.

Well- the OL should have a fairly easy time countering this by destroying the images (which he only needs to inflict 1 damage or one fatigue on to do one damage AND one fatigue to the conjurer.

Because of the fatigue cost to the conjurer for summoning images and using Priamatic assault, it will be hard for the conjurer to summon, position, and fire in one turn- and if he is already close enough to the fray to not need to position the tokens with movement points, he is an easy target for monsters.

It's far easier to position than you'd think, with Refraction. After using Refraction to position an image, I usually can earn fatigue back during the attack from with all the surges. Plus you can move the images to various areas of the map using Prismatic Assault. Wait until I find a Blasting Rune, or Rune of Fate or Lightning Rune.

Since the mage is Astarra, walking around with a four willpower, it's fairly easy to deal with any monster skill that would cause an image token to suffer fatigue.

I have said before that conjurer astarra is my favorite combo. She is quite mobile. Remember that refraction is also an action, and uses some fatigue (which you could recover with an attack, sure.)

I am confident your OL will find a way to counter this fatigue dependent strategy. Having played both as a conjurer and an OL fighting one, I can say with confidence- the tools exist.
