Nice podcast.

Assuming nothing horrifically stupid happens in the next film, Han Solo is dead. Sigh.

Seriously did not want this to happen.

I guess Han no longer shoots first.

I think this was a good conclusion to Han's story arch. Han doesn't shoot first anymore. He is investing in people. Luke has clearly rubbed off on him. It is a pacifist's victory. I'm sure we will see a change in Ben thanks to Han.

Thanks for listening! This is a great group and I'm always honored when they invite me on the show.

They needed an Obi-Wan death moment and it was Hans turn. I hated to see it but understand the reason why they did it. I like the new Han and being a father of 3 can understand that he would be willing to give his life to bring his child back from harming himself.

Obviously, this also allows JJ Abrams et al to progress with the story line, and eliminate the use of the older characters as time goes by ...

Makes me kind of wonder what is in store for Leia and Luke ...

Lol - you spoiler tag the description of the podcast which contains no spoilers, then the next post has the biggest spoiler of all :D

I could see Luke doing the Obi-wan/Yoda fade away at some point. Not saying that he will, but I could see it as plasible.

On another note, did I see it correctly that it was a wrecked Super Star Destroyer then Rey flew the Falcon though?

No greater love is there than for one to lay down his life for another. This is the same love as a mother (or father) for child, and a brother in arms for his fellows and country. Ben Kenobi knew this on the Death Star, Luke knew this when he threw away his sabre and wouldn't fight the Emperor, and Vader knew this when he finally took the brunt of the Dark Side's attack and saved his son, and the future of the Jedi and the Galaxy. This new movie carries that lesson forward, and bodes well for the rest of this trilogy.

Yeah Jakku was the sight of the last major battle between the alliance/new republic and the empire. Both sides were badly mauled in the battle and a treaty followed. The imperial remnant knew they would be unable to rebuild under the republics eye so retreated to the outer rim to rebuild in secret.

This is my thought too. I expect a pacifist's victory in Episode 9. The return of the true Jedi order also must happen by then.

I predict that Episode VIII will see Leia going rather dark, essentially giving up on Ben and being rather mad at Luke. Her new attitude combined with the general cockiness of the Resistance will get them into some very hot water, resulting in a major defeat. This will set up Episode IX for Leia to rise above her dark side and forgive Ben while rallying the Resistance and maybe even calling in direct Republic support.

I don't think we have enough info yet to guess Luke's trajectory, but I'm seriously hoping that he doesn't go full classic Jedi but rather learns from his and the order's past mistakes and goes pseudo-Revanite instead.

Edit: I forgot to add, we may well see some proper Imperials at some point, perhaps an Imperial fleet joining up with the FO at the height of Ep VIII for a joint strike against the Resistance (that nearly wipes them out and ends up plunging the Republic into full-scale war again). This would be a perfect opportunity to see TIE Punishers and TIE Defenders in action, alongside a TIE/foB Bomber. Ep IX will then showcase the Republic's new stuff (T-85s? E-Wings? K-Wings? Some kind of new bomber type?).
