Elite TIE list Soontir Echo Zeta Leader

By Aerethan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Echo: Recon Specialist, PTL, Advanced Sensors, Advanced Cloaking Device - 43

Soontir Fel: Royal Guard TIE, PTL, Twin Ion Engine Mk II, Autothrusters - 33

Zeta Leader: Expose - 24

Total: 100

With Echo every turn I can Advanced Sensors Focus+Evade, and do a green maneuver to remove stress so that I can cloak off the ACD in combat phase. With Advanced Sensors I can also use Boost to replace the decloak move after lower PS ships have moved if I still need to change position after seeing where everyone ended up after decloaking.

With Soontir I can PTL and essentially get 3 actions out of it, and the Ion Engine gives even more flexibility to remove that stress each turn. I could focus + evade for benefits in both shooting and defense, or I can boost and barrel roll if extra maneuverability is needed in the moment and still get a focus out of it. Autothrusters make him even harder to kill, especially if Evade was taken as one of my actions earlier, effectively guaranteeing 2 evade results against anything outside of range 1 or firing arcs.

And lastly with Zeta Leader and Expose I'm trying to maximize the amount of shots I can pull off with the points left. I may be better off just taking 2 Academy Pilots though, as that would net a higher total health pool and guarantee the 4 shots each round, as well as provide more targets to try and offset the enemy focus firing Echo and Soontir.

Thoughts? I'd love to get any input on the list. I don't really play in any tournaments or anything super competitive.

I thought PTL was impossible to trigger off of Advanced Sensors.

Advanced Sensors skips the "Perform Action" step.

PTL requires the "Perform Action" step.

Unless im missunderstanding, PTL cannot trigger off of a "Free Action"

EDIT: I was wrong, PTL can trigger off of free actions just fine.

I've played a similar build a bunch - but with a Doom Shuttle instead of the Zeta Leader. Minor other mods i did were...

  • Echo had Veteran Instincts/ FCS instead of PTL/Advanced Sensors (40 points)
  • Soontir had Stealth Device instead of Twin Ion Engine (35 points)

What i like about Echo/Soontir is their agility and fun flight. But they can be very brittle. To counteract that, I'm increasingly a fan of a Palpatine Shuttle build (99 points). Unfortunately, i had to drop Echo to make room for Palpatine. But Vader is sorta the perfect flavor and power replacement with the new Title and ATC...

  • Soontir Fel + Title, PTL, Stealth Device, Autothrusters (35)
  • Vader + Title, Lone Wolf, Stealth Device, ATC (35)
  • Omnicron Shuttle + Palpatine (29)

A few other thoughts...

Instead of Zeta Leader, take a look at Omega Leader and The Inquisitor. Specifically these two builds...

  • Omega Leader + Comm Relay, Juke (26) + Your Choice for Mod (I prefer Stealth Device)
  • The Inquisitor + Title, Autothrusters (28) + Your Choice for EPT (I like Crack Shot)

Omega Leader can get past a lot of problem ship defenses, and has tons of survive-ability.

The Inquisitor seems cool - but not sure just yet.

if you really want to get cheeky with aces that include Echo:

Soontir+title+PTL+stealth+AT

Epsilon Ace+comms+shield

Echo+decoy+navigator+ACD+FCS

Use navigator to change position to get into range one or out of arc...decoy off of epsilon ace to shoot at 12 then ACD to recloak

Expose is an awful card. Try Predator on Zeta Leader.

PTL + Adv sensor Echo has got to be one of the most difficult ships to fly in this game. If you like a challenge,, then go for it, but be prepared for a long period of 'learning from your mistakes' trial.

TIE mk 2 on Soontir is not great. Not terrible but here's the thing: all 3 banks have overlap in terms of the ship base's position on the table. What this means is that if an opponent tries to block the 2 bank, it is also likely (not 100%, depends on the angle) that he will also cause overlap on three bank as well. This applies more when your Soontir is approaching the enemy and you dial in the 3 bank hoping to avoid getting blocked (spoiler: you probably won't!). The 3 bank is also the 'worst' move on a small ship's dial when it comes to landing on rocks. Its the hardest move to visualize, so be careful close to rocks, because landing on one usually results in Soontir's death...

I agree with Bio, above. Expose is horrid. Do yourself a favour and burn the card :P

Predator for offense or comm relay for added durability

Edit: if you take comm relay on Zeta leader, you should have 1 pt left for wired too

It is my belief that if you're going to run PTL AS Echo, you need a way to assure that it gets to shoot first... even with 2 foci and an evade or the massive reposition that echo provides... you need a way to assure that you have 4 green dice when it comes to fire at echo... with Decoy Vader as with EU he stands the best chance at staying at R2 of your echo.
