No wave 3 ad until Jan

By Cubanboy, in Star Wars: Armada

Waves are silly. When I got into SAGA I didn't need to wait for years until all the units were released. I just went out and bought what I wanted. Armada would have been a better game if they'd been able to release EVERYTHING at once. I shouldn't have to be waiting this long just for them to release the Star Destroyer! Games don't need constant releases to be popular or retain player interest. If anything, I'd be happy with no wave three ever. Sure, there's some ships I'd like to see, but I can also play for just about forever with the ships I have now so if there was no wave 3, I wouldn't cry about it.

But waves are the business model for FFG's miniature range. Now there are a lot more small type starfighters in Star Wars than there are large capital ships. So Armada will have fewer waves than X-wing.

but there won't be a episode 7 wave anytime soon. Episode 7 had next to nothing for Armada, and nothing else that hasn't been released for X-wing.

The other issue is the manufacturing situation. These aren't metal tribal soldiers whose needs are based on what's good for an army, these are prepainted spaceships that are tied to a franchise with varying levels of canonicity. If all models came out at once, everyone would just buy ISD's and whatever passed as a Mon Calamari cruiser. You think anyone would notice ships like the Raider or the Assault Frigate if they had to go up against every other Star Wars ship in existence? Maybe the hardcore players, but I'm sure the casual player would just buy whatever was familiar before considering adding a guppy to their fleet.

I'm also pretty sure not all models for Saga were available when that game came out. I mean if I got into X-Wing now I'd have all sorts of choices for my squadron, but that game's been out for like three years now.

(Also, let's not forget the game that released all Star Wars ships at once. If Armada is deep, that game was a puddle).

I was flipping through one of the Edge of the Empire books yesterday and noticed that there are fighters and cap ships in it that I had never heard of. I'm not a big EU fan but I have played some of the older Star Wars video games, Rebellion being my favorite.

Perhaps FFG will use some of these ships for future expansion.

I'm pretty sure most of the capitol ships of the Rebellion came from... well, Rebellion, or the X-Wing series. The point being you probably won't be disappointed :P

Could someone list the capital ships from AoR? I don't have the book. They do seem like likely candidates for future waves.

The entire purpose of 'waves' are so that D503 will watch Empire Strikes Back, get nostalgic and order a 2nd ISD he shouldn't have.

Duh.

It already worked on me!

Hell, I went on Amazon today just to order a PC version of Battlefront, and ended up tacking on 2 more Raiders and another Neb B.

Unfortunately, except for the interdictor, I don't see a place for these at the moment. Some of these would never be made bein two small or two large. The MC80 Liberty will likely be made at some point but they will likely fill in gaps at this point and not just make some similar with different looks.

TO be honest, I think the priority will be "what has been on screen? What is canon, but has not been on screen? And finally, what gaps can we fill in the game?" I don't think they'd skip past one of the only capital ships seen on screen from the OT (the Liberty) because it doesn't fit the current rebel line-up.

Actually, I'd say the Liberty fits the line up just fine. Next Wave should give us at least one new medium for each faction, and the liberty would be great for that. Maybe something like the front and side arcs are all decent, but none of them is fantastic. We've already have a great side arc medium in the AF, but we don't want a VSD clone, either. I don't know, it could be interesting.

Then they can put the Interdictor on either a small, or medium base, and figure out what to do with that (it'll take a smarter mind than me. Maybe a title that allows another friendly ship at range X to cancel a black crit effect or something.)

Front Arc Liberty medium ship would be a lovely addition to the Nebulon-B. . .

I am just waiting until they release the Trade Federation faction! lol

Don't get your hopes up for this mate.

Sometimes waiting is the best reward..........enjoy what we have :)

A Rebel Admiral that boosts squadrons would be nice!

Bummer. I like being able to budget for ships. Not a huge deal, but if I don't know it's coming, I'm going to put the money elsewhere. There are a ton of really cool games right now. I'm also OK with this being an annual release. It would be nice to know either way.

Just figure you need about 120 per release for one of each ship ;-) budget crisis solved.

Yeah, that would cover it if I was just going to purchase ships, but for some reason I keep feeling like I should buy dice, extra dice.

CIS Scum!

Honestly, FFG could get a lot of mileage out of Clone Wars ships. You release two whole new factions for folks to buy and play, and later, release repaints for the original factions. Obviously anything used by the Republic can be rereleased for an early Imperial fleet, and even if the previously pubished material that put CIS ships in Rebel hands is no longer viable, the idea of the early Rebellion building their forces at least partially out of Clone War surplus or salvage just makes too much sense to ignore.

just makes too much sense to ignore.

And yet they definitely probably will ignore the possibility.

Eh, no skin off my back if they do. So long as I can get my hit of capital ship crack in any form, I'm happy. :)

I don't think they have the proper license or permissions for clone war board game action.

Clone wars would be great for Imperial Assault.
