No wave 3 ad until Jan

By Cubanboy, in Star Wars: Armada

I just want to hear from FFG that they are working on wave 3. Cause right now it seems like they are finished

If wave 2 makes money, wave 3 goes into production, wave 4 gets designed. Rinse and repeat. Over time, as processes get formalised and staff become more practiced, the gap between waves shortens.

Which I'm totally cool with...if they actually say that. I think a 3rd wave hits all the ships I'm probably interested in for Armada.

I will make a guess and say that the Rebel Transport and Gozanti Cruiser will be in Wave 3.

Why the rebel transport? It bearly armed with more anti fighter weapons the anti ship and was only 90 meters long or half the lenght of the cr90 and no where nearly armed as well.

Because battles are rarely just about two sides lining up and shooting at each other. They tend to revolve around capturing things, escorting things, defending things, etc. The transport and gozanti would serve to add 'objective' ships where one side can score extra points by moving their transports from A to B.

I think during the worlds interview they said they finished work on wave 3.

That soon Mah! By me, May would be fine with a due date in July.

Agreed with both Marinealver and Chucknuckle. I'd also like to see both of those included. I'm not sure what their role was, but there were tons of GR-75s at Endor. The Gozanti Assault Carrier could be a good source of Squadron Commands.

With the delays on this wave I can see being more careful with timing. Gotta wonder though..... what will the ships be....

Maybe it was the lack of new ships in The Force Awakens that put a real damper on things?

Yeah, I just want to see the MC80 Liberty (the one with wings) and the Imperial Interdictor cruiser. After that all the iconic ships will pretty much be finished. I like my ships to look like the movies, so I'd rather see different versions of the iconic ships rather than a ton of lesser known ships.

I have not even gotten the wave 2 ships yet. sheesh!

Well that settles it! Everyone calm down and wait for Geressen to get all the wave two ships before we announce wave three.

I've been catching up on the Rebels cartoon and I'll bet the Acclamator class makes the list as well.

I shall make a gofundme thing for donations to speed this process up.

Waves are silly. When I got into SAGA I didn't need to wait for years until all the units were released. I just went out and bought what I wanted. Armada would have been a better game if they'd been able to release EVERYTHING at once. I shouldn't have to be waiting this long just for them to release the Star Destroyer! Games don't need constant releases to be popular or retain player interest. If anything, I'd be happy with no wave three ever. Sure, there's some ships I'd like to see, but I can also play for just about forever with the ships I have now so if there was no wave 3, I wouldn't cry about it.

I would say not many here will agree with you though I do plan on stopping with save 2 myserlf. So I understand what you are saying.

My thoughts -

1) I'm just starting to scratch the surface of wave 2. Still heaps of variety to try and to fight against. So no hurry.

2) Looking at the balance of the game and where expansions might add new dimensions, certainly interdictors and transport/objective ships that come with appropriate mission cards would be interesting.

3) Looking at it from a "gameplay" perspective rather than a fluff/"history" perspective, I can see room for new medium ships - the AF and the VSD are good mainstays but new medium ships would add more "mainstay" ships to build a fleet with. Trouble is thinking of roles/configs that would differentiate from the existing.

Ideas:

- A medium mon cal cruiser. Would keep the aescthetic of the movies. Maybe AF hull and shields, with support teams and ion batteries and a blue dice focus? I'm quite wary of the EU stuff, a lot of it is pretty garbage.

- Imperials - In "Lost Stars" there are a few mentions of "Attack Cruisers" which are lighter and less prestigious than Star Destroyers. They sound more modernised than a VSD. So maybe VSD hull/shields, speed 3 (supposing it was designed to operate along side ISDs), with a broadside focus - maybe with blue dice again so it doesn't impinge on the rebel red dice broadside dominance? Allowing Ions, defensive retrofits and support teams? (Although if its an attack cruiser it should probly also have the gunnery team slot...)

- Old school dreadnoughts are a potential, but has anyone ever seen one in any of the modern fluff? (ie rebels/clone wars?). The modern stuff seems to focus on Venators and then the Kuat wedges.

- So an Acclamator may be possible as a general purpose small ship - Gladiator hull/shields, but a lighter red/blue base armament. Able to act as a combat ship to support the bigger ones.

- Fighters - have no idea - clearly the Xwing game is happy to source from the wider EU.

I just checked Wookiepedia I think the latest appearance of the Heavy Dreadnaught was in a The Clone Wars comic in 2009. I really hope that we can see the ship in this game, its one of the EU ships I'd really like to see added.

I would like to see two ships, a rebel and imperial, fill in the point hole between the VSD and ISD and AF and MC80. 85-100. I would like the rebel one to have a squadron command value of 4/5 depending on the side to bolster the rebel fighters. The imperial in that range could maybe fill a role of something new like a burn through laser ...where it hits and has a chance to continue to role and do a possible critical .... chance of burn through greater with as the ship gets closer...maybe even has to charge etc.

****point is that the rules might start to change a little to get some new roles which would be interesting.

I would like some other ships in the 50-75 point range. Something agile for imperials and something with some serious shields and hull but maybe lacking in firepower for the rebels in that range. 5/6 hull with 4 front shields, 3 sides and two back...kinda of be a fullback blocker.

But waves are the business model for FFG's miniature range. Now there are a lot more small type starfighters in Star Wars than there are large capital ships. So Armada will have fewer waves than X-wing.

but there won't be a episode 7 wave anytime soon. Episode 7 had next to nothing for Armada, and nothing else that hasn't been released for X-wing.

Yeah I can't see the value of lobbing Finaliser and some First Order Tie variants in to the current game at present.

... Well, on the Original OP note...

.. Descent got an Article Today, so clearly someone is in the Office at FFG :D

I want the Imperials to get an extra ship to even the score, since rebels have +1 extra. Also I could do without any new squadrons for a wave or two. We have twice as many squadrons as we do ships (4x as much if you consider uniques as being a separate ship type).

I was flipping through one of the Edge of the Empire books yesterday and noticed that there are fighters and cap ships in it that I had never heard of. I'm not a big EU fan but I have played some of the older Star Wars video games, Rebellion being my favorite.

Perhaps FFG will use some of these ships for future expansion.

Take a look in Age of Rebellion, there is about 10+ capital ships in there.
