Please explain the advantage of Epic ships to me.

By Stormtrooper721, in X-Wing

You should not add more than 30 pts of upgrade to the Raider. 30 pts is 30% of the ship base cost. It is like adding a 3 pts upgrade to a tie fighter. It is ok.

130 pts for 5 attacks and 26 hp (that you can regenerate) is good, amazing in fact.

True. That difference is a TIE fighter though and at 130 that missile raider murdered enemies.

Loaded with the right weapons, you can dish out a lot of damage to enemy ships. Just make sure you don't take too much damage in the meantime. For that, you need to control their approach.

I have the feeling that simply equipping ordnance tubes and assault missiles does a good job of that.

Ion Torpedoes are better than assault Missiles in my mind. Both are good, though.

I meant simply for the control aspect. If they did want to plan a specific approach, they have to be careful to stay out of range or arc, while not flying in tight formation. They also have to plan their route carefully, which means there's all sorts of chances for you to mess with their vector.

I basically got some X-wing and Armada for Christmas and I was wondering if anyone else who plays both still likes the huge ships in x-wing when those are the small ships in armada.

I think that although a swarm is more competitive in the long run. The raider isnt on its own. Chewing through 12 TIE fighters while being pounded by a tooled up raider is not just going to be as easy as making unopposed runs on the raider, particularly if the controlling player knows what they are doing.

Seems like people are learning Epic ships are *somewhat* balanced like Armada ships.

Learning to run them naked is important. Lots of upgrades make them versatile, but turn them into points pinatas at the same time.

Nothing brings in the honies like a Huge Base, knamean?

The advantage iz being sweet as hell.

I learned today that if you kit them out right, some of them can be absolutely brutal. Because at 130 points, I can get a raider with 5+ attacks per round plus rerolls (well, ok, the rerolls come from Jonus but still).

Just got the green light. Corellian Corvette inbound so I will have both Raider and Corvette to make 'pew pew' noises with.

I absolutely cannot wait to take my Raider against my friend's CR-90.

Close in and keep him in your sights. That corvette has a frightening main gun and a strong but short duration broadside depending on the build. Your choice of fighter formations and strategies is important too. By the by... The Imperial strategy at Endor with that wave of TIEs works in this format as well. Allowed me to tie up his fighter force so the Raider can pound the Corvette to rubble.

Lean upgrades is important, but naked is a mistake. Their guns on a naked ship just aren't enough to make them worth it. They really need the cheap additional attacks to make up their points.

Or something to make up for their lack of attacks, in the case of the Transport and Gozanti.
