new tourney rules - one player defeated

By thanosazlin, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

so the new line added is

One Player Defeated: At the end of the current game round ,
all of one player’s ships are destroyed. The player with at
least one ship remaining earns a win and the opposing player
receives a loss. The players determine their scores.
so i always thought once all ships are destroyed game ends, that changes now in tourney's YES? so this means if i lost all my ships before the squadron phase, but had Han and couple of other squads left for the squadron phase i would still get to go so would my opponent?

Yep. The change was made so that Rieekan's Zombie can't "table" an opponent, and keep the points difference.

But I've played more than a few games where the squadron phase may well have impacted the outcome.

I made a thread in this actually. This is a good move I think!

Without Rieekan, it's good for squadrons without being "too" good. I think it's actually kind of a nice half balance against getting full points for living enemy squadrons when you table them.

That was brought up as well I believe ^_^

In the thread? Was it a while ago? ****, here I was proud of myself for coming up with that analysis on my own. Oh well.

You can just check it out ^_^

Sweet, that's recently enough where i didn't get the idea from that post! I might still have gotten it from somewhere else, but I'll pretend I thought it up alone! ;)

Thanks for the link, I didn't otherwise see that thread.

With players now looking at over a quarter of their points tied up in ultra-expensive Rogue and Unique squadrons this is a very useful change in addition to Rieekan.

The entire Fleet Building section forgot to update the values to 400pts in the new Tournament Rules as well.

Use to be a third of your points.

I've heard of this typo - but squadrons are still a third (134) of the total, right?

They clarified and it is 135 right now. I believe it is in the new Tournament packet.

EDIT: It is on Page 1 under "The Future of Armada" It is all red.

The 135 is for minutes, not squadron points under "The future of armada"

You are right, I am silly, and it is the prior announced amount of 134.

Thanks for that clarification, I was pondering how to best exploit that extra point in my Rhymerball, lol.

It was supposed to be 150 minutes but the reduced it by 15 minutes and I am already running my monthly tournaments at 120 minutes to get my players ready for Store Championship and above season.

I only experienced hitting the Wave 1 time limit at Worlds when there were 25 games happening. Most games end early, so shaving a few minutes off the max time seems like a pretty good deal. The marginal percent of games that it beggarly affects will be more than paid for by the number of games that get to start an extra 15 minutes early.

How many Store Championships will your area get? You guys had what, 5 Sullusts?

Yea, 5 Sullust events over 3 days (wish I knew we that we could have split them up over 2 weeks. . . Would have had better competition). As for SC's, we have 4 in close proximity and 1 a bit further out. Not to mention a ton hight up in Washington but they are likely spread out.

I have been seeing people go to time more and more. Those people are over thinking things IMO and are trying to play the famed like X-Wing. They get results though in their precision and turn games around at times.

My last 2 tournaments has at least 1 game go to time. Sullust has at least 1 per say as well. My monthly tournaments also don't start till almost 5pm which is another reason I enforce the 2 hour limit.

The winner still gets the points for his opponent's surviving squadrons after tabling his opponent though, right?

Tournament Rules, Page 3, "Scoring"

• If all of a player’s ships are destroyed, his or her fleet is worth 400 points, even if friendly squadrons remain in the play area or the fleet is worth less than 400 points. His or her opponent still adds any points scored from the objective to the 400 points scored for destroying the fleet.

I went looking to Quote Myself, but it must have been a different thread I posted this already...
