Hey all,

Anyone in Japan can you tell me about the X-Wing scene? Both casual and competitive. Been gone since 2011 but likely will be moving back this summer for wifes family.

Another question. Are there any gaming cafes in Tokyo or other areas? That being board gaming cafes. Been thinking about opening a gaming café myself. Like the FFG model were they serve food, drinks (Beer yes!) etc.

There is a boom in the X-Wing scene here in Tokyo lately and we even try to get officially supported for tournaments and regionals.

As for gaming cafes, I think there are one or two in the Akihabara area but not 100% sure since I haven't been to them.

We haven't decided yet but April to May is likely time frame. Looks like a great turn out for the last few tournaments there.

What about ordering X wing materials in Japan? Does anyone carry them in store or just online purchases? Were are some decent online stores and physical locations for purchasing games?

Will definitely be shipping my board game collection over as well. Look forward to meeting you and others.

MrField, the store we did the tournaments has X-Wing and is reasonably priced.

Other than that, group orders from Miniature Market happen often and I also use book-depository once in a while.

There is a grp in Osaka (Kansai area) and the FB page has been provided above. I lived in Nagoya for 5 years and unfortunately there was nothing there. There was a very small 40K community.

JIGG Osaka gets together first Sunday of every month. There's usually some X-Wing action going on then. I've done some gaming there during my visits to Osaka and everyone is very friendly and welcoming of newcomers. There's also an active Netrunner and Game Of Thrones community. Check out JIGG Kansai on FB. I'll probably be visiting Tokyo in April and I'll be in Osaka around New Year's Eve.

Saw one post that mentioned a place and wife said I usually go to that area(I call it the geek area because that's where I go to buy all my transformer and star wars stuff when I'm there)

From what I ve heard there are licensing issues with Japan. I am trying to find details, sent several mails to FFG but surprisingly they never replied. We are kind of left in the dark regarding why we can't start store championships and regionals.

That's weird

Especially since many other countries seem to have them.

Star wars is pretty huge there obviously

Haven't seen any other country deck out their passenger planes and trains with star wars theme.

And the ice sculptures there last year were amazing!!

Not even the Japanese understand Japanese addresses. You can try asking a local once you get there, or light up some candles and incense and hope for a vision.

Its Japan. There are always 6 people between the supplier and the customer. Makes work for everyone but also creates real bureaucratic chaos.

When I was there in 2001 Amazon USA would ship anything over $35 free to me in Japan. Not sure if they still do....

I'm just getting into X-Wing, but if anybody around Nagoya wants to play, send me a PM.

Seems like FFG/Disney does not distribute any US-licensed products in Asia. Perhaps it's due to overlapping licensing over small model ships and figures. Like how Takara/Tomy and Bandai makes small ship models unavailable in the US and the stuff from FFG and other manufacturers from the US isn't distributed over in Japan.
