A Grand Vision of the future, feedback appreciated (Jewel of Yavin Spoilers)

By LeighPouse, in Game Masters

So a bit of backstory is required first, in Long Arm of the Hutt while my guys were exploring the warehouses of Mos Shuuta and came across a locked chest with a daunting skullduggery check on it and amazingly they passed (bear in mind they had no xp or many skills at this point), inside they found a ring with a clear rough jewel on the top with a blue core.

Skip forward a lot of sessions and we are playing Jewel of Yavin, I have replaced the "Jewel" with another of these rings except this one has a purple/black core. I have made a custom Jedi to follow them on this mission and she was going to confront them in much the same way as Elaiza was going to except they spotted the Jedi with an extremely lucky perception check, a chase ensued through the streets of Bespin until a lucky Triumph made the Jedi run into a dead end.

The Jedi told them that she wanted the "Jewel" for her own purposes but would only need it for approximately 10 minutes. My PC's promised the Jedi that she could use the ring and now the Jedi will not interfere in the heist whatsoever (don't you love when the unexpected happens).

Anyway, skip forward to the end of the Adventure (which hasn't happened yet), when the PC's make it back to their ship on Eriadu (long story) the Jedi will be waiting for them. Then this will happen.

Upon seeing the ring the Jedi uses the force to summon it from your hand. She quickly retrieves a cube from her robes, the cube has engravings on it which are emanating a light blue light.

The Jedi scrambles almost shaking from the excitement of what is about to happen. She takes the ring and places the “Jewel” into a slot on the box and twists it. Nothing appears to happen at first and the Jedi looks almost disappointed, then all of a sudden the corners of the cube twist to be off the corners of the cube in pyramidal shapes.

The light coming from the engravings intensifies and the Jedi puts the cube in the middle of the room. Almost out of nowhere a projector spins into place on the top of the cube and a middle-aged female, robed human figure appears from the projector.

“This is Jedi Master Elaay (crack) Justaar Jedi (crack) Elaay (crack) This is (crack)” The static keeps interrupting the message for a few seconds when the Jedi says “I don't understand what's wrong with it?”

As she takes a step to towards the cube it begins to crack and the blue light is now piercingly bright. The cracks start to spread and appear all over the cube when it suddenly begins to levitate and spin rapidly. As the Jedi reaches out to the cube it shatters.

The light that was illuminating the ship is now engulfing it and all you can see is bright white when it all goes dark.

In the darkness you feel nothing except cold, suddenly you hear a lightsaber hum to life and the darkness is pierced by an orange light in the mid-distance. The blade is swinging around as if it is fighting the darkness. The battle draws closer to you and you are almost grateful of the warmth generated by the lightsaber when all of a sudden it is struck by lightning and vanishes. The lightning slowly starts to spread towards you splitting into multiple arcs as it does so.

You turn to run from the lightning glancing back over your shoulder when you run into something and fall backwards, you find yourself in a room surrounded by dead Twileks. From the floor you look up to see a figure in a black cloak and black armour with a dark grey X carved into it one level across the chest. The figure looks at you and reaches out with his hand, grabbing you by the throat and lifting you into the air, as you struggle for breath he speaks with a deep semi-metallic voice “No witnesses”. Just as you feel close to the edge of death the figure and the room you are in disappears in a puff of black smoke and you begin to fall for what seems like an eternity.

Somehow you land on your feet on the bridge of a strange ship and Needles is hitting the command buttons rapidly when he turns and sees you he looks angry “JUST GET OUT OF HERE!” he shouts and he and the ship also disappear in a puff of black smoke with the words get out of here echoing in your mind but this time you don't fall.

You blink and find yourself in an office of some kind, there is a Gran in a very smart three piece suit with his hand on the shoulder of a Toydarian with a bandaged wing. They are looking at a notice board with lots of information written on it when the Toydarian grabs a picture of a human man on a pedestal and shows it to you. You are sucked in to picture and find yourself in a crowd as the human from the picture is making some sort of speech. The speech is stopped short though by a violent explosion somewhere nearby. You turn in the direction of the explosion and see a bridge collapsing.

Amidst all the screams you push through the crowd when you spot a Chiss male looking proudly out of a starship window, you turn around but the crowd is gone. “We had no choice” comes the voice of the Chiss male, you turn back to look at him when he suddenly bends over at the middle and vomits a lot of blood, he arches back and you hear his spine snap as he screams in pain. He turns back toward the window and begins to punch at it with newly taloned hands and breaks the safety glass in three punches. You are pulled forward into the vacuum of space and all goes quiet and dark once more.

A sparking of electricity cuts the air, you open your eyes to find yourself in a workshop of some kind, a Selkath is working hard on a seemingly dead body muttering to himself “I can get it to work I know I can, I can get it to work” he looks up and says “You there hand me that Hydrospanner” and points over your shoulder.

You turn and find yourself bound and gagged to a container in some sort of hanger bay. A female Rodian is standing over you, she kneels down and places the tips of her fingers under your chin raising your head up. “You thought it would be easy” she says “your new crew is somewhat... lacking” she drops your head and turns to walk away, “throw him out the airlock” she says and begins to laugh. Everything disappears once more in a cloud of smoke as the laughter fades away.

You begin to fall again but not for long as you hit a hard wooden floor, you stand to find yourself in badly damaged room of some kind with tree trunks growing through the edges of the room. You see a Loth cat doll on a worktop and walk forward to pick it up. The doll is blackened and dusty, you lean forward to blow the dust away when you hear Tie-Fighters overhead.

You run outside to a scene of erupting lava and black rock, kneeling in the centre of some kind of ritual site is figure in Red Robes, he stands, turns to you and lowers his hood, revealing himself to be a species you've never seen before with blood red skin and hauntingly yellow eyes. “Legends never truly vanish, they are just waiting to take centre stag again. And my enemies...”. A Red lightsaber hums to life “will be in the front row”. He shoves his hands forward and force pushes you over the edge towards the lava.

You close your eyes in fear and after a few seconds when nothing seems to happen, you open your eyes to find yourself back aboard the Testudo (The PC's Ship). Everyone is where they were before and the Jedi is still reaching to the place where the cube was spinning before.

This is basically a Trailer/Vision of what is coming for them, including their obligation stories, a new Nemesis (the figure in black armor) and some custom adventures I have created.

Sorry for the really long post but any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated, Thanks for reading.

Sounds pretty cool!
Definetly a good way to connect events and create a continuous story.

However, I find the Vision section is too long
Oother than people untrained in the force can't controll, direct and uphold visions for a longer time, I made the experience that some groups just get bored if they don't have something to do and just have to listen, so I would maybe shorten it, depending on your group.

Other than that good stuff, sounds like you have a plan for the future (wich I find hard with an EotE campaign)

Thanks, I know the vision is a bit long but I have this piece of music I am going to use that will hopefully bring out the best in it. I do have a good idea of what is going to happen to my PC's but just like with spotting the Jedi on Bespin, I'm sure they'll surprise me and ruin my plans lol

That's a good point and I think you hit on the core issue, which is that the players just have to sit there and do nothing for the duration of the vision. I think something like Luke's experience in the cave on Dagobah would be more interesting.

If there were minor ways in which the characters could interact with the vision (and maybe getting more or less information from it based on their actions), then it becomes an encounter instead of an extended cutscene and they would probably be more engaged.

They ALLWAYS do ;)

I once wanted to kill an NPC off (because I created him while being tired and tipsy) and I had the perfect plan: Sabotage with explosions.

The Assassin stayed there to watch him...
