Who Is the New Power in the Galaxy?

By Boba Rick, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

With the former powers being nerfed, who do you think is the new power in the Galaxy?

What list is the strongest? If that's not clear, then what faction is the strongest?

Or is it really anybody's game at this point?

From what I've seen coming in Hoth, I think the pendulum has swung to the Rebels.

Clearly Sorastro is now the ultimate power in the universe....

Elite sabs still look pretty powerful and can ditch fair amount of damage when focused, i think they will still be worth 7 points. Luke is still effective, leia seems like she will be a great addition too...Cutting the chace - i agree with Boba Rick that rebels might be the new power.

However, im hoping for more prevalent empire and scum lists - vader, rgc, kayn somos, boba and trandoshans, hired guns, all look like a decent choice when we dont have to compare them with old royal guards

I think the Luke Leia combo with 22 points to customize will be huge.

If you keep Leia and Luke close you can swing with 3 3 dice attacks in two activation, and you'll get a re-roll off of Leia.

For example you can run:

-Luke (10)

-Leia (8)

-Elite Sabs (7)

-Elite Sabs (7)

-Mak (3)

-Gideon (3)

C-3P0 (2)

All within 40, you still have a hefty activation count numerous ways to focus allies with a ton of options for Pierce and Stun. Then on top of that 6 of your figures have 5 speed!

I think every faction can be competitive now, with scum probably still trailing a bit behind. They need a leanly costed quality figure like Luke or Leia to spearhead thier efforts. Or some way to make Hired Guns, (thier cheap body replacements for Officers/3P0/Gideon), more worthwhile.

Any list with containing Mak haven't been optimized yet. There is much better options than Mak available now.

In reply to OP then it seems it will be the Year of the Rebels now, as I can't see how a minor nerf to elite sabs will have any effect, and with the addition of the Elite Alliance Smuggler it is Stun and Focus galore on the Rebel side now :D

I mean with only 3 points there's not much room. I'm not saying it's optimized but it's a great team with 3 points to spare I prefer and extra attack over R2 or any skirmish upgrades so I threw him in. I'm not saying its the end all power but that core with 22 points to spare can be optimized to be an elite force.

Better option would be Balance of the Force and Rebel High Command ;)

As I said in my initial post. and again now IM NOT POSTING THE BEST LIST EVER. I'm posting a powerful list showing the power of a team build using Leia and Luke. If you want to make suggestions on my team go ahead an do so but don't be a **** and try to micromanage my team, especially after I make this point twice.

TLDR SORRY FOR INCLUDING MAK IM JUST SAYING LUKE LEIA + REBELS IS POWERFUL

Me.

I think rebel saboteurs are still pretty good.

My money is in wookie warriors, assasin droids and snowtroopers thoug

Vader, Guards and Elite officers is still a viable list as it ever was.

Trooper lists with the new Snowtroopers and elite Stormies and possibly Kayn are now amazingly solid that you don't need to spread so thin to avoid blast. And possibly Wiess isn't so bad now?

It's entirely too early for me to guess at what will be the top lists in this brand-new meta. But I think generic groups in the 7 to 10-point range that give you 2 or 3 figures, not named Royal Guards, get the most out of this errata. The bar for "Can they compete with Royal Guards?" is much more attainable now.

Elite Saboteurs' nerf from Blast 2 to Blast 1 is great news for trooper "swarms" as well, I think. A Saboteur can no longer one-shot a whole group of regular Stormtroopers.

There is actually a reason to have the Command Card "Explosive Weaponry" in the deck now. I just fear that there isn't room for it now, as there are so many great Command Cards released.

Maybe this list will be the best:

Rebel High Command 2

Luke Skywalker 10

Leia Organa 8

C-3PO 2

Gideon Argus 3

+ On a Diplomatic Mission 1

Elite Saboteurs 7

Elite Saboteurs 7

Personally I feel Leia is very much overrated. She's not that tough, she generates very little damage on her blue and yellow dice with weak surge abilities, her commamd card recycling ability is gimmicky and will very rarely do anything since most high-end skirmishes are over round two, round three at the latest. Her personal card requires a specific combination of cards to be drawn at one time, otherwise it's pretty much a dead card - never a good idea, that's deckbuilding 101.

Only thing going for her is the extra attqck ability, but since she brings nothing else, what's the point in paying 8pts for her if you could just spend those points in better attackers in the first place.

Time will tell I guess, but in my opinion people will be pretty disappointed when she starts hiting the table.

Other than that, I agree Rebs are set to get the upper hand now. The Alliance Smuggler is bonkers and I consider him the new the new benchmark in the cost-effectiveness ratios. My only problem with him is I haven't decided whether to preorder four or six copies.

Most skirmishes HAD lasted 2-3 rounds when 4x4 and sabs dominated. The errata will extend this out to 4-5 rounds normal IMO. If nothing else, the increased variety that will come from not having everyone playing the same list will make it a bit harder to plan/respond to an original opponent list, shaking things up and making each round more cautious/paced.

Rebel focus lists could be damaging, elite rebel trooper with the "get into position" ability, combine that with fenn to give them assault. Add in Gideon and 3po. Maybe elite/reg echo base troopers and I wanna give loku some play to see how he goes...

Personally this is good for the game as it gets people to try out different lists, Royal guards are still good, but they will 'protect' other powerful characters, or draw fire away from them. Boba and Royal guards

If the intention was for Royal Guards to be a defensive unit then they took a step in that direction.
