Tournament Win and MOV

By USCGrad90, in X-Wing

The way the new tournament rules are written around half points for large ships is confusing. It is written so that a win is determined only by the ships actually destroyed and half points comes into play when calculating MOV. This would mean if a 4TLT Ywing took the shields off of 2 Brobots, but lost 1 ship, Brobots would get a full win and MOV (I am guessing) would be 125-125.

I am not sure if this was the intention, because of how it was recently used at Worlds, with half points being used to determine who wins, but this is now how the new version reads.

Anybody have any insight?

The 1/2 health MOV includes shields.

So if you take the shields off of an Agressor (IG88) then it gives up half its points.

One TLT Y-wing: ~25 points

Two 1/2 killed brobots: ~50 points

Victory to the TLTs.

Do I have that right?

By the newly issued version:

"Each player calculates their score by adding together the total squad point value of their opponent’s destroyed ships, including Upgrade cards equipped to those ships. The player with the greater score receives a win, and his opponent receives a loss.

When calculating Margin of Victory (see “Margin of Victory” below), each player receives half the total squad point value (rounded down) of each enemy large ship whose combined total hull and shields, including any Hull Upgrades or Shield Upgrades, have been reduced to half or below."

So as written, half value does not factor into deciding who wins, but affects the quality of the win or loss.

A terrible change IMO. This was one of the best changes to X wing in a long time, and should have been extended to small bases.

I REALLY hope we don't see a return to the dark days of fatties everywhere.
