Hobbie and Targeting Astromech

By Hockeyzombie, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I'm not great at figuring out the exact way that triggers and timing in this game work. When Hobbie Klivian does a K-turn with Targeting Astromech equipped, does he acquire a target lock before or after he gets the stress for the red maneuver? Does "after you execute a red maneuver" mean after I move the ship or during the clean up step, which happens after I get my stress token?

Executing maneuver requires you to perform all steps listed on page 4 of the rules reference.

2. Execute Maneuver: Resolve the following substeps in order:

a. Move Ship: Slide the maneuver template between the front guides of the ship’s base so that it is flush against the base. Then pick up the ship and place it at the opposite end of the template, sliding the rear guides of the base into the opposite end of the template.

b. Check Pilot Stress: If the maneuver is red, assign one stress token to the ship; if the maneuver is green, remove one stress token from the ship.

c. Clean Up: Return the maneuver template to the pile of maneuver templates. Place the revealed dial outside the play area next to the ship’s Ship card.

So acquiring the Target Lock happens after the stress is assigned

My thinking is: K turn, get stress, obtain target lock, remove stress. I feel this all happens before the "Check pilot stress" section of the Activation Phase. But, like you, I sometimes have trouble with nested actions.

Magnificent. K-turns are effectively white as long as Hobbie isn't 12 parsecs away from any hostile ships. I'll be using him a lot more frequently, which means I will use him at all. Thanks for your help.

Execute your maneuver (steps a, b & c)

It's now AFTER, so Targeting Astromech triggers allowing TL.

Now you've just acquired a TL so Hobbie triggers.

Can hobbie perform an action then, because he isn't stressed?

I belive thats correct

Can hobbie perform an action then, because he isn't stressed?

It's the same principle as FCS which triggers even when you're stressed... It's in the wording... It's not saying "You may take a Target Lock action", it's saying "You may acquire a Target Lock." Those are two different things...

He was asking "Can Hobbie perform an action after a red maneuver, because he cleared the stress this turn with the acquisition of a Target Lock from TA", to which the answer is "Yes"
