The new Imperial Assault FAQ just dropped. It has fairly signifigant changes to three very popular units (Imperial Officers, Royal Guards, and Rebel Saboteurs). These changes go way past the sort of slight rewordings that we've seen for X-Wing errata. Could this be a sign that FFG might consider doing something similar in X-Wing?
Imperial Assault cards errated for balance.
I'm not very familiar with Imperial Assault. Is the errata like point reductions? Or something like rewording Howlrunner's ability to be limited to twice a round for example?
Considering that Imperial Assault skirmish was broken in a way that this game never was, seems doubtful.
Cool. It was needed.
I think the fundamental difference is that upgrades are a much larger portion of a force in x-wing. In IA it's much harder to fix something without changing the primary card.

In all cases, the nerfs specifically address damage and mobility between the two most common archtypes.
On the Imperial Side, a common tourney list was the "4x4" build. It used four sets of generic Royal Guards paired with four sets of generic Imperial Officers. The Officers had an ability which let allies move their full speed out of turn. The Guards (who are among the fastest units in the game) then put out huge amounts of damage and control while protecting themselves from retaliation.
On the Rebel side, the Saboteurs were far and away the most powerful card. They were fast, cheap and could put out massive amounts of damage. They were largely considered to be the only things capable of reliably punching through an Imperial Guard's defense.
The best comparison this has for X-Wing is the Phantom nerf, which was done for the same reason. It was grossly imbalanced compared to the rest of the game, so changes were needed.

It's probably on the level of giving Kir Kanos an EPT, making Lorrir's ability not give stress and making the HWK have 2 attack.
In all three cases the changes amounted to nerfs.
Can I get a link? Tried looking in the news but didn't see it

Hmm have all the Imperial Assualt exp as well. Fun game, this is a welcome change though Saboteurs were just crazy.

The Saboteurs have an ability that, in a good roll, lets them deal a significant amount of automatic damage to units surrounding their target. The damage from this ability got halved.
The officers will still see play because they're cheap, but the rest are significant enough nerfs to substantially reduce the amount those units are played.
Now I cab play Scum without knowing I can't win! :-D
Edited by Engine25I just hope there is a plan to get PRINTED versions of these cards out to people. It's gonna get REAL OLD, REAL QUICK having to go online to figure out what the new abilities are, or how much surge damage the elite saboteur has now. Granted I could print out my own on printer paper, but that feels like I'm proxying cards at that point.

Or you could write on the card sleeve (just in case they errata the errata).

This is the reason why they don't do functional errata like this.
Keeping track of this nonsense is annoying when working in a physical medium.

if only they would give us a pdf of updated cards to print out, right now i will have to try and take apart their pdf if i want the versions with clean text.
the nerfs were important nothing in the game compared to the abilities of those three units so they were pretty much the only units people played at high level competition.
oh never mind the nice versions in the pdf are the useless originals.
The way they did this looks really extreme (changing text in the card itself) but it was a really needed change.
I hope they never come to this situation in xwing
There seems to be a pattern here; overpowered cards are more likely to be given 'strong' errata than underpowered cards. Since, at the moment, there doesn't appear to be anything severely OP in X-Wing, any errata like this one are unlikely.
I don't think it was that extreme... let's keep this in perspective. They changed pierce 2 to pierce 1, and movement 5 to movement 4 o the sabeteur. Since its on a 5 point unit, it seems quite fair.
The unit is still fairly quick, and can use its pierce and blast capabilities to to so damage. Unit is still quite useful.
Necromancy
Truly the work of the Dark Side..
Hey, Goomba was banned.

Where did you dig up this old fossil?
