Shouldn't the Armorer additional class skill be Knowledge (Education) instead of Knowledge (Outer Rim)?

Depends, should he know why gear works, or obscure places that use equally obscure gear?

Not necessarily.

The Armorer could be intended as the "backwater mechanic" that can fix a car or build a house, but doesn't have anything more than a basic education. I know college-educated adults that can't swap out a tire or do basic house-hold repairs, and I know adults with just a high-school education that can do high-end repairs and construction.

Education is fairly broad in what it covers, including not only engineering but also things like philosophy, ancient literature, and other "soft" subjects that have nothing to do with building and repairing weapons and armor.

Yeah, I guess you are right.

I thought that since one of his talents called for Knowledge (Education) it made sense to have it as a class skill.

Thanks guys.

There's a lot of odd pairings like this throughout the product line; areas where a talent calls out a skill that the Spec doesn't come with. It's to encourage cross-specs and creative pairing with species abilities.

Plus, it's an Average Education check. Most Armorer's should have a decent Intellect anyway, and probably is worth it to drop the 10 XP to pick up a non-Career skill rank in Education.

Outer Rim deals with knowledge of where to find the raw materials without government interference or questions which would be more frequent than any education check I think.

My Armorer has taken up residence in an old Red Rocket gas station and garage on a small planet in the Outer Rim. There he lives out his days as a hermit, tinkering away on his armor, and keeping an eye out as the distant protector of a small settlement to his northwest.

Outer Rim is fine.

The Armorer tree makes Brawn Guardians viable. You can get away with a 2 or 3 in Intellect. As long as you still take ranks in Mechanics, a high Intellect character in your party can assist you when crafting/modding if you really need it.
