[SPOILERS] TFA: Rey

By SomeKittens, in Star Wars: Armada

She was sold to Unkar Plutt, the fat guy who owned the Millennium Falcon"

Where do you get this. She seems to be free.

I hope Rey is the third skywalker generation. Every trilogy is about a choosen Skywalker strongly influencing the fate of the Jedis and the galaxy.

I dont think Rey was taken, but hidden from Snoke and from falling to the dark Side like Ben did. Rey and Ben could be over 10 years from another, so it could be possible.

I also hope they put Mara Jade in again. Its a great character and I despise Disney sacking of the EU.

The hand holding five-year-old Rey's arm (in her flashback) is very distinctively Unkar's.

I like the "hidden from Snoke" angle but that means Luke doesn't trust the Resistance? Interesting...

I guess the Resistance didnt exist back then? But the Jedis were always better of not trusting the republic/rebels fully. To many possible Sith spies in there.

"- She was sold to Unkar Plutt, the fat guy who owned the Millennium Falcon"

What is your reference for this statement? In the Novel she vehemently proclaims the opposite.

Unkar Plutt may be paying the scavengers 'Slave Wages' for their scavenged wares...but she is def not a slave.

I agree that "slave" would be the wrong term to use. But during the scene where she was left on Jakku and her family flew off, the hand holding her arm looks like Unkar Plutt's.

When she touches Luke's lightsaber, she has a flashback to Jakku, there's a FO transport flying away and the hand holding her arm is very distinctively Unkar's. Making an assumption that she was sold though.

Edit: Agh, ninja'd by half an hour. Whoops.

I hope her mother is mara jade. No reason why i cant Kylo probably killed jade when he turned. And just like others have said. Luke hid her from the knights of ren to protect her while he went off in search of jedi secrets to help him and rey fight them eventually.

The problem with the "Luke hid her from Kylo" theory is that Kylo must have turned at a young age, and I got the impression that he was older when he went dark. Is this covered in the novelization?

Good point. I think kylo is older than rey by a few years. So he could have turned at a relatively younger age.

But maybe what happened is more of him quite literally opening the door for the knights of ren to enter the new jedi temple and kill everybody. And the flash back we see in the film is afterwards and he is hunting down those that escaped. He wouldnt have to be to old to disable any security system and what not to let other dark side users like snoke into the temple.

That sounds plausible. Now I really want to read the novelization.

Hmmm. I'll have to watch it a 4th time. I thought it was Lor San Tekka's voice I heard as she was being pulled away as a child. He is a member of The Church of the Force...if not the leader.

That's something I've been puzzling over, but given that Kylo must have had some time tutoring under Snoke, joining or forming the Knights of Ren, rising to prominence in the First Order, etc. it maintains some consistency.

Even if the cast is so **** young it's hard to see a sufficient age variation.

Kneejerk guess: Rey is Poe's sister. Source for my prediction: Shattered Empire (Comics): Journey to The Force Awakens.

Well I have only seen it once, so I may not be remembering clearly, I will be seeing it again in a few hours so I will pay close attention to that scene. But like I said, I am almost positive that it was Unkar's hand holding her arm. It could be that Lor San Tekka is talking, but Unkar was involved in that event as well.

Can you provide more info? Not arguing against, I havent read Shattered Empire yet, so I would like to know what happens in that for you to say she is Poe's sister :)

You could say that he helped them Snoke the Jedi order.

Get it? Snoke?

...I'll see myself out.

or from snoke.

The look on Luke's face as he turns to stare at Rey like he's seeing the past tells me she's his kid, which I'm sure will come out near the end of the next episode. ..until then they will do a kenobi deal and from a certain point of view...skirt the issue till he eventually confesses to her

I'd almost say it has to happen.

Another interesting thing is I don't remember Ray having a last name. Every character has a first and last name almost every single time. Chewie doesn't have his mentioned and Fin was born with a Storm Trooper number. And she doesn't speak about her past at all, it is a total secret aside from her parents leaving her.

Who she is will be revealed in Episode VIII but there are plenty of hints being dropped. They don't just drop the big bomb at once, they're giving a lot off clues to who she is. But we could be reading too much into it and they maybe purposely doing it. The writers know what they're doing and these "coincidences" are not just mistakes dropped in.

One question that I feel unanswered is, how the hell did Luke's Skywalkers Blue bladed lightsaber end up in a trunk in Maz possesion????

I mean did Luke not loose that lightsaber (and his hand) in his fight with Vader in Cloud City, Bespin??? :o :o :o

And would this not mean that he still has his green bladed lightsaber???

there is a big fat alien next to her telling her to be quiet in the flashback and they are on a desert scrapyard planet where they are literally wage slaves working in exchange of meagre rations. no need for chain and collar slavery, they got nowhere to go and unkar plutt can defend his position because it's not slavery, they can walk away any time!

Also R2D2 doesn't reactivate until Rey shows up at the Resistance's base. I don't believe in coincidences.

Ray is not a slave. She a freewoman. She was not brought or sold

I figure she was entrusted to lors san tekka to be looked over aka how kenobi gave luke to his aunt and uncle. This would also explain why he had part of the star map. As she was being held by a human hand and not a alien hand

So either she be lukes daughter. Or she have been born of the force and entrusted to luke to raise.
