Pilots Who Surprised You?

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

I ran Blue Ace for the first time last night and was pleasantly surprised by his ability. That t-boost is a big positional tool to help you swing around other ships, arc dodge and maneuver through asteroids. I found myself using his boost whenever I could, and later realized I was wrong to discount this pilot!

So what Pilots have you flow recently whose ability you once overlooked but now have respect for? For me, today, it's Blue Ace, he'll be making another sortie soon I'm sure!

Zeta Ace for me. I threw together a silly list with every weird barrel roll the imperials have, and that 2 template was actually super relevant.

another vote for Zeta Ace

hilariously relevant ability ^_^

the basic Omega Squadron with Juke + relay also far surpassed expectations. I really wasn't expecting much of Tie Fighters that are priced like Blue Squadron B-wings, but holy crap these guys are capable

They've even kicked ass against Aggressors :o

the combination of Juke, Relay evade, and that stupid, stupid good dial makes them far more than the sum of their parts would suggest

green dice still suck, though

Ten numb with tractor beam and calculation. Aggrivating to high agility aces, but in my experience the other ships get the aggro.

I like that, it's funny and a little dirty.

... huh. What would you fly it with to capitalise on that firepower?

Honestly, when I flew Kyle against Vader and won.

I never expected to pull that off.

Gemmer Sojan, bane of TLTs...

I still remembered the first time I played against Zeta Ace. He was running Engine Upgrade and PTL. There was a point in the match where I thought he was going to have to Segnor's Loop or K-turn to get back in the fight, keeping Poe safe from him for at least one more turn. Instead, he does a hard left, boosts, and then PTL into a Barrel Roll that put him behind his starting position.

Yeah, I lost that game.

I just grabbed the temps and performed this with an empty base...

... Wow. That's janky!

'Blue Ace' with R7-T1. "Oh, you think you've caught me at R2, and are out of my arc? Here, let me TL you up and then boost 90 degrees into arc at R1. No, no; thank you."

I went with 3 tlt hwks to maximise dice spam... more chances for that 1 less agility to matter.

welp, after tonight, I get to add the other Zeta to the list

I already had Zeta Leader pretty highly rated as the most powerful named FO after Omega Leader, and while I still hold Omega Leader above all (dude's just awesome for those stupid elite pilots that keep showing up, like bloody Poe) Zeta just showed how valuable that FO dial is by taking his 3 dice to a whole new level

despite only being the vice-president, he can sure get **** done!

here he is pictured not giving a ****

He's been around for awhile, but has been heavily overshadowed by Jake recently, but my vote goes to Tycho. Stress is hitting the meta hard and heavy right now. And Tycho loves it. The test pilot title gives him so many options now. You can go Psycho Tycho, Juke Tycho, Wired Tycho, Cheap Tycho, Expensive Tycho...

He always surprises me. Sometimes, it's by wrecking face. Other times, it's by rolling flat dice and dying wayyyyyyyyyyy too soon. But, he always surprises!

I've used him with R2-D6 and Adrenaline Rush.

Try it with templates - Talon Roll to your right, declare it white with adrenaline rush, then hard turn boost to your right (now your left). If someone starts on your tail and does a 1 straight to 'drop in behind you', this move is truly insane.

If you've ever seen Red Tails, this is basically the 'pretty boy' hard turn.

I thought about the juke/relay combo yesterday and is it really that strong on PS4 ships? what are the odds on still having that evade when its your turn to shoot?

Pretty good as long as you run in a group or next to higher priority targets.

But its not that easy to fit many of those in a list as well as a high priority target. A standard ace clocks in around 34-42 points. So you need to take a cheaper ace like carnor with it because i think you should at least have 3 of them.

Two definitly are enough when you go the prioriy target rout.

2 Juking Omegas with 2 x7 Delta Defenders seems pretty solid.

I like to fly Jake and Tycho. They're my two favorite pilots. I usually give Jake PTL and VI while giving Tycho PTL and Wingman, that way they are not limited to green while flying in formation. I've been thinking about using wired on Tycho however.

Jan Ors with VI. Best Whisper insurance there is. Also great against the old man himself, if the other player didn't bother to put VI on Vader.

easily that strong

and very high, provided you either

a.) use that amazing dial to dodge

b.) bring more than one Juke FO

quite partial to 3 of them at a time backed up by Howlie and Wampa . Could also do 3 and a Juke Glaive squadron
