Discussion - What are actually good objectives for Ackbar?

By Blail Blerg, in Star Wars: Armada

In general I think geometry into wave2 is just much harder for star destroyers. We've pretty much made the conga line a perfect thing. But we're still missing an easy star destroyer movement plan.

Also, gladiators, tend to fly once by and blow something up, and then spend the next 3 turns being pretty useless, at least in my games. Anyone had good flight path for Gladiators?

Its also kind of sad cuz a lot of the time, the Gladiators are also limping from concentrated fire, and ... honestly not sure if you want to push them back into the arena against.

The opponents with Star Destroyers that I have most disliked playing against come in two varieties:

  • The kind who will jam them directly into the middle / front of the Conga line to disrupt the formation by ramming. Raiders and Gladiators are best for this, and it's back to the Gencon Special idea of "You can't circle the toilet bowl if I throw a hand grenade in it". You have to aggressively ruin their movement and have that be what your fleet is built to be good at.
  • ISD2 / VSD2 fleets with gun teams that are being slow played. These make ideal complements to a Rhymer Ball, because you want the game to go slowly. With them, you probably don't even want to start engaging until turn 3ish if you can do it. Make the Rebels commit to their move by being at a crawl on the other side of the board, and then count on your sustained long/mid range firepower paired with bombers to do the damage.

If you are flying past people with Imperial ships, you are not executing either of those plans.

Great objective suggestions here. I've pretty much settled on Advanced Gunnery for both sides (AF/MC-80 or ISDII), and Fire Lanes for Rebels. I've usually been running Superior Positions with my Rebel Ackbar fleet, but I usually run 8-10 squadrons with a couple AFIIs with Boosted Comms and either Tantive or Yavaris, so I'm less worried about being flanked, feel pretty good about being able to flank with my fighters, and like knowing where the enemy's generally going to be.

I hadn't really thought about Dangerous Territory for the Rebs, but for a larger fleet with MC-80s, seems like it would be a boon. Plus ISDs running over Asteroids is always nice.

I thought Ackbar only had one objective, and it involves breakfast.

theres... now dedicated threads to breakfast in the xwing forum. not that you arent allowed to, but can we keep the breakfast offtopics there?

Though really, those cartoon kids are so ugly! ahh. haha
