I going to buy Imperial assault tonight, but wanted some advice. Which sets expansion sets should I get? I hear that getting rebel troopers and storm troopers pack is a good idea. What do you think? I only want to get a few add ons. I going to have a Christmas eve x-wing/imperial assault all night game fest with friends.
What sets to get?
Rebel Sabs >>>>>> rebel troopers. I bought two of each , but looking back I wish I only bought one RT and three RS.
ok so if I did get 1 RS and 1 RT, what would you recommend for the imperial side? or is the imperial side already strong enough?
Flightmaster's talking more about skirmish, for campaign you don't really need any figure packs. I'd recommend waiting until you've finished your first campaign and gotten the hang of things before buying anything other than the core.
ok sounds good. Is there a good tutorial video out there that explains the rules correctly? My game wont come until the 23rd and I wanted to get prepared early.
Are you planning on playing campaign or skirmish? you posted this in the Campaign forum, so I guess campaign.
FoOr campaign you can skip most of the ally/villain packs and buy Twin Shadows and/or Return to Hoth if it is available so make the campaign even more interesting, or if you only have a single evening to play, then you can paly the minicampaign from Twin Shadows
We have a great summary page for all the currently available:

With details on which packs add what to the campaign and skirmish respectively.

Why isnt Twin Shadows itself mentioned in the list? If the purpose of the list is to help players navigate what to buy, it should really tell them that Twin Shadows add way more value to Campaign than all of the packs combined
I've just bought villain and ally packs that seem interesting to me. Or who appear in a bunch of missions. Then I bought Chewie figure just because I wanted to paint it.
But like mentioned before, the figures are not really mandatory for campaign as there are tokens to represent them. Of course a token Boba Fett is not the same as figure Boba Fett but it'll do.
The villain and ally packs add side missions but you can end up playing through the campaign always running the same side missions no matter how many side missions you have to make the initial side mission deck.

Because it's not an Ally or Villain Pack. I started the list as a buyers Guide for people who do play regularly (and thus will buy small and big box expansions no matter what) and are now asking themselfs which Packs to add to their expansions. Also a writeup of Twin Shadows (and Return to Hoth) will be considerably longer. I put off designing a structure for how to review the boxes and writing the review in favor of clearing up the Ally and Villain packs first.
I do plan to cover the box expansion too, but it will take some time which I planed to invest over the holidays ![]()
Yes, I plan on playing both and that well help me determine what version I like best. I think playing campaign will be my main focus first.
I would strongly advise getting the big expansions first. Twin Shadows and Return to Hoth both add a lot to the game in terms of missions, minis, and map pieces.
If you are trying to save money, you can get by with character tokens that come in the expansion packs instead of buying their character packs. That said, I am a big fan of the General Weiss Villain Pack because you get the parts for him and standard AT-ST. If you don't glue the parts you can swap them to suit your needs.
Even though they are not great I would highly recommend getting a Stormtroopers pack. It just doesn't seem right unless you or your opponent has a large army of Stormtroopers.
The Royal Guard Champion is also nice to have for an Imperial player.
