Imperial fleet building advice

By grabula, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I’m looking for some advice on list building. I’ve played a handful of games and am enjoying myself, still picking up tips and tricks and have been perusing this site for insight. I’m not looking to build meta or meta busting lists, I’m just looking to put together fun lists I can win games with on occasion! Here’s what I have:

ISD

2 x VSD

Gladiator

Imp Fighter pack plus plenty of extra TIEs

It’s not a lot, but my collection is growing slowly. This coming week I’ll prob pick up another gladiator. My overall plan is to have 3 of each type of ship minimum.

Last game I played with the ISD2 + Screed, Enhanced Arm. and Overload Pulse. Gladiator 2 + Demolisher title, VSD1 no upgrades, several squadrons of TIE’s and Interceptors with Mauler and Soontir.

My regular opponent tends to throw out a handful of heavy squadrons - xwings and bwings so I bring TIE’s to bog them down and for the most part this has worked pretty effectively. I’m typically left with a couple of squadrons when I finally finish his off. For capital ships I wanted the ISD because, it’s awesome. The Gladiator I want for the flexibility and maneuverability and the VSD I just plugged in to fill points.

I lost, mostly due to my own bungling. I used Screed wrong, only using him on one ship per turn. I didn’t issue maneuver commands early in the game so got outmaneuvered pretty bad. I still had a good time, I’m just looking to up my game a little.

I don't know, that's a pretty sizable Imperial Fleet already. But I guess here's my own tips

1. Always equip your ISD with Electronic Counter Measures. You want to make sure brace is not accuracies, as it is your best defence.

2. Always equip your ISD with a Gunner Team. You want to get the most out of that awesome 8 dice in your front arc.

3. For you, consider running Wulf Yularen on your ISD. Consider if you get a Engineering token early on, with Wulf Yularen you can effectively repair a shield every turn by just using the token and then exhausting Wulf to get it back. It will certainly help with the survivability of your ISD which you can't afford to lose.

4. If you are uncomfortable using Screed, consider Motti instead. His bonus is passive and if you are using Medium and Larger ships, they'll benefit quite a bit.

5. For that matter, stick to ISD II and Vic II especially when fighting rebels. The extra range helps

If enemy fighters give you trouble, consider the combo "warlord" title on a VSD with H-9 turbolasers. It's pricey, but it's a guaranteed 1 damage to every enemy fighter within range of the VSD firing. And if they're on the line between arcs, that can be 2 damage. It's often a surprise, and that coupled with Mauler Mithel flying in to do his burst damage can take a rebel fighter wing from good to half-dead in one swoop.
