Help me finish this TIE Fighter Ace Squad

I'm looking to create a casual Alpha Strike squad that relies on Crack Shot and 3-4 attack TIE Fighters to deal damage early.

This is what I have right now:

Howlrunner

Zeta Leader [Crack shot]

Mauler Mithel [Crack shot]

Scourge [Crack shot]

25 points remaining

The main weakness is high PS aces, so my first thought was: Omega Leader [VI] and a Hull Upgrade on Howl..

Either that or a Doom Shuttle with Intel Agent.

Do you guys have any suggestions or alternatives?

you're going to want to drop mauler or scourge; they're both incredibly situational

Omega Leader is a shoo in, but don't settle for less than 26 points of Juke + Relay; especially not for something as bleh as a hull upgrade

let Howlie die, she'll probably have done her job long before she bites it anyway

Toss a Swarm Tactics on Howlrunner, add a Scimitar with EM, IPM and FT. Let the enemy choose their poison: spend their evades and focuses on avoiding the ordnance or the Crack Shots.

Well, I would just take 2 academy pilots and give howlrunner crack shot too. Their blocking potential denies opponent actions allowing the rest of your squad to survive better/hit harder.

I also think Omega squadron pilots are better than Mauler + Scourge. The drop in pilot skill is relatively meaningless, especially since they are not priority targets anyway. And although they don't have quite the same potential in firepower, they are harder to kill and have better dials (which I think will be helpful once howlie and zeta are down)

So my changes would look like:

Zeta leader w/ crack shot

Howlrunner w/ crack shot

2 Omega pilots w/ crack shot

2 academy pilots

The main reason I had Mauler, Scourge, Zeta Leader, and Howl in particular is their Pilot Skill order.

With everyone firing before Scourge, I was hoping for a very high chance he'll have 3 attack dice. Zeta will have his 3 reds most of the time, and Mauler will be in there too.

@Blade_mercurial yea I was strongly considering just adding 2 Academy Pilots. With the extra point, probably Determination or Crack Shot on Howlrunner.

Crack Shot. If going for a barrage of Crack Shot enhanced attacks, accept Howlrunner's gonna die quickly and try to get the extra damage from her too.

If you want someone capable of annoying high pilot skill, then a tooled out Omega Leader is good, alternatively consider Epsilon Ace with a few toys.

Mauler Mithel is the workhorse of the TIE Aces list.

Try this....

  • Omega Leader + Crack Shot (22)
  • Zeta Leader + Crack Shot (21)
  • Mauler Mithel + Crack Shot (18)
  • Scourge + Crack Shot (18)
  • Howlrunner + Elusiveness (18)

99 Points. Drop Elusiveness if you want a better chance at initiative.

Good Point - how about this...

  • Omega Leader + Comm Relay, Juke (26)
  • Zeta Leader + Crack Shot (21)
  • Mauler Mithel + Crack Shot (18)
  • Scourge + Crack Shot (18)
  • Wampa (14)

97 point build. Slap a stealth device on Omega Leader if you want to go a full 100.

Why is this better?

  • Howlrunner forces too tight of a formation for the value of the TIE/fo Fighters
  • Wampa is has the utility to bypass really nasty defenses
  • @ficklegreendice is right that the Juke/ Comm Relay combo is super strong

Howlrunner + crackshot is worth it over either PS 7 Tie

Wampa in particular is far easier to enable with Howlie

Keep in mind as well that Scourge *needs* Wampa to setup his ability...
