Strangely, Black One has the squadron markings of Orange 3.
Question regarding TFA pilots for those who are seeing the film repeatedly...
T-70 vs T-85 for Poe... Well he has two in the film. Which is which?
I believe both are 70s - the 85 artwork hant been revealed yet.
T-85 could be completely differerent. Remember the T-16 skyhopper and T-47 speeders were made by the same company.

This is probably the T-85 X-Wing Starfighter.
As far as I can tell, we only have three names from Blue Squadron (if Poe isn't included it in, that is).
And we have a grand total of 0 names for Red Squadron.

Indeed, T-85 could be a tugboat for all we know.
Well, probably not. IIRC, the story they have with it makes it sound like a fighter.

Also the black X-Wing is not a T-70 anyway.
Yes, yes it is.

I believe its been corrected to be up to date (The wiki originally posted the model you posted but reverted to the T-70 after a few hours) - the ships from Before the Awakening do not feature the in The Force Awakens as those were Republic not Resistance ships.
I'm pretty sure Poe brought the ship with him from the Republic. Maybe he just had his "new to me" one painted black. I'll have to re-read the relevant parts of the novel.
Incredible Cross Sections: TFA has Poe's black-and-orange ship be a "customised T-70"
Given that the Resistance are supposed to be secret from most of the Republic (except for the few military people in the know) it makes sense that they would be getting the older hardware and not the just-released stuff - the older stuff is easier to channel to them without the rest of the military finding out.
This is probably the T-85 X-Wing Starfighter.
That was the first concept for the T-70. I've read the Art of The Force Awakens books- there are many, many concept pieces for X-Wings in that book. There is no guarantee that this concept is a T-85.

Sorry but you're wrong and using information that has never existed. Black One is a T-70 in black and orange. There are no T-85s in the Force Awakens.
Edited by Razgriz25thinfSomeone from the prop department might have had a TI-85. But it probably would be more suited to calculus and not dogfighting.

oh good
cause if it was the T-85, I can see why the resistance kept the T-70s ![]()

As I said elsewhere. In the Republic he flew a black T-85, when he joined the Resistance he got a T-70, this is gone now as we all know from seeing the movie, then he shows up with a black X-Wing. Evidence points towards this being his ship from his days flying in the actual Republic navy. Now it's either A) he painted a different T-70 black and for whatever reason choice not to use it for his mission to Jakku B) It is his T-85 from his days in the Republic or C) the story team didn't account for this discrepancy and will fix it somehow.
Edited by ToqtamishGoing by Incredible Cross Sections: TFA, his black-and-orange X-wing is a custom T-70. Did he have an all-black X-wing separate from that one?

His Republic ship was all black too and a T-85. Probably he painted his T-70 to match it will be the explanation we get. Odd he didn't take it to Jakku but then I guess it wouldn't have been as cool since it would get blown up on the ground.
Looks like options for future releases of pilots and abilities
OR
Alt art for kits and tournaments.

Well the Rebublic and the Resistance don't get along that well even if elements of the Republic do fund the Resistance.

I wouldn't say they don't get along. I would say they just don't see eye to eye. If they didn't get along they wouldn't be covertly supplying them and letting them "take" their pilots.
