Resurgent Class Star Destroyer

By jarmus mrawn, in Star Wars: Armada

Unless the alliance has something bigger I can see Fighter 5, Command 4, Engineering 4 for this thing. Maybe 5/4/2 shield arcs. But such a beast might be prohibitively expensive in 400 point games... would be like trying to cram an ISD into a 300 point match. It would somehow need to make the best use of its fighters as that's the only kind of escort it's going to get.

I fail to be excited about a ship that in the movie looks like simply yet another Star Destroyer. You probably need to compare with the shooting angle of earlier movies to notice a size difference. If at all.

Hence I am totally indifferent to see it in Armada. Doesnt fill any niche.

I like the hull underbite, the melded command tower, and some of the subtle differences. But I'm the kind of fan who gets excited over the slight detail differences of the Devastator model from A New Hope and appreciate it for its rarity (since the ISD-II Avenger , and the ISD-I mod into Avenger, are far more common).

I admittedly dont see that in one movie showing :)

But there are experts, of course, and thats a good thing!

Well it's easy when there's merchandise there to stare at, hold up, and help pick out the details. :)

Any TFA starter set is likely years away, as we just don't have the ships to support it yet. We have one Capitol ship, two types of TIE and the T-70 X-wing. That's it. Hopefully episode VIII will bring some more variety.

Two fighters and one capital ship? Looks like we're only two small capital ships away!

There are multiple Republic and First Order capital ships shown during the film, but it's like... on the edge of the frame for a few second in particular shots.

Not enough to get any real detail on the ships of the line for either side.

The RSD has a flight deck for assault ships occupying the "underbite" on the prow and near each side hangar, each of which are loaded with TIEs as seen in the film, in addition to a more traditional SD belly hangar with even more TIE racks.

Copying from the incredible cross sections book:

Evoking The Past;

While it's size evokes the command ships of the Empire, the Finalizer's design recalls those of Republic Era capital ships from the clone wars. Her dorsal flight deck, side hangars, and prominent keel are similar to elements of the Venator class Star Destroyer, reflecting a renewed appreciation among First Order tactician for capital ships' role as carriers.

The Finalized can launch her full complement of star fighters and assault ships much more quickly than her predecessors in the Imperial Navy could.

Other Imperial Era design flaws have also been rectified - the need for a better protected command bridge with increased redundancy in command and control systems was a hard lesson learned from the loss of Executor at the Battle of Endor.

Edit: regarding the First Orders new SF TIE... it has huge capacitors(the cogs on the wings) shields and even hyperdrive. Designed for long range deep strike missions and sustained engagements.

The First Order aren't selling the lives of their pilots short. Even the basic TIE/fo has shields now.

TIEs with shields designed for deep-strike, sustained engagements? Sign me up! :D

Unfortunately for said pilots, their foes X-wings were upgraded as well, leaving them still at the bottom of the food chain as was evident from every single fighter scene in the movie...

No number of military grade kyber crystals can make a blaster cannon punch through plot armor.

I'd like to have the RSD in Armada.

I'd paint it black, and field it next to my field grey imperials. It looks so Sith it would have to be black.

Ventral Cannon upgrade in the Ion Cannon slot maybe?

Ventral Cannon upgrade in the Ion Cannon slot maybe?

The "Ventral Cannon" appeared to just be a concussion missile battery.

That said, if we're talking upgrades included with the RSD, I think the most obvious upgrade would be a Turbolaser Kyber Crystal upgrade.

Well they could make a first order ship for Armada.

but what the heck will they have for the Resistance? New X-wing Squadrons?

I paid attention in my second viewing of the film... there ARE republic ships hanging out over one of the planets. They aren't front and center but they do have shape and detail. I suspect we won't get a clear look of them until the DVDs come out and we have some freeze-framing... or some book comes out that points them out.

FFG classifies each ship as small, medium or large base regardless of its dimensions in lore. There is more flexibility in the size of the actual mini. Given the popularity of Episode 7, this SD will surely find its way to Armada but I imagine it would have the same base as the ISD but with a larger, longer mini to appease fans.

Yea the DVD will help along with explanation on how technology has advanced because Planets don't pop ship out of hyper drive

Yeah, they show a whole flotilla above Hosnian Prime and (assumedly) the other planets of the Hosnian system but we only see them for a moment before *SPOILER OCCURS*

NEED SCREENCAPS!

EDIT:

There are also additional First Order cruisers (of another design than the RSD) around Starkiller, but we only see them at a distance for a moment.

the problem with this is the ISD is all ready "to big" for the large base. Anything larger would be ridiculous for that base

There is nothing to say that they will not make a "Dreadnought" sized base.

The day FFG releases the Resurgent is the day I begin playing Armada. I really like the look of the First Order, and I've already started collecting a T-70 squadron for X-Wing because it's my favourite small ship.

You have no idea how much you are missing out ^_^

Don't worry

Impatience might lead to me buying the starter and some Rogues and Villains.

I suspect there'll be no First Order and Resistance in Armada until Episode 8 at the earliest. More than a year away. If Episode 9 is the only to have fleet scale battles, I'd be waiting a long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.

if you look at X-wing, it will most likely be the "huge" base, not dreadnought.

And have multiple cards.

Say, how do you guys think a multiple card mechanic would work?
