So I finally watched the trailers, really (TFA SPOILERS)

Yeah, I (and some members of my family) avoided Force Awakens trailers for what, a year or more now? Hard to do with nerdy co-workers, but possible. I brought headphones to movie theaters so I would hear as little as possible while the trailers played. And now after seeing the movie, I'm so glad I did.

I just don't get it, why does everyone WANT to see all this stuff ahead of time? It's so much more fun to not know what's going to happen the first time through. Like for example, several trailers showed a crashed TIE fighter in a desert, so everyone (except me!) knew Poe and Finn would crash on Jakku as soon as Finn asked Poe if he could fly a TIE fighter. And that's just one of dozens of spoilerific moments in the trailers.

Now I do watch trailers for some movies, it's just too much effort to avoid all trailers and spoilers, but I make a special effort for Star Wars. I used to avoid other series' trailers more than I do now, but it's so much effort. And even not watching the trailers, I still knew more about the movie than I wanted, there's just too much out there to avoid it all, but I knew way less than the average person for sure.

Does anyone else feel the same way about trailers and spoilers in general, or is it just me and my crazy family?

You've inspired me. I will blackout for episode 8.

Nope, it's not just you. I was in the bubble as well, especially for the last few days before - I avoided TV (which wasn't hard since I hardly ever watch anyway), co-workers, other gamers, facebook... anything that might talk about it.

For me, the biggest "what?!?" I ever had was watching The Matrix. I had heard nothing about it, knew nothing about it, except for a short teaser trailer that showed gunplay. (I think it was a quick snippet from the slo-mo lobby scene) So as far as I knew, it was some kind of mafia or special forces movie with gunfire and explosions - which, at the time, was good enough for me.

Boy, was I surprised when Agent Smith said, "What good is a phone call when you are unable to speak?" and Neo's mouth started closing up!

Had I known more about the movie it would not have had nearly the same effect on me, I'm sure. I really don't know what the fascination these days is with showing the whole movie in the trailers.

Yeah... knowing that they (probably!) crashed on the planet they said they were going to really didn't ruin the movie for me.

I was actually really impressed, once I saw the movie, with how much of the trailer footage took place so early into the movie, before the story and characters are even really established. It was really well played and didn't give away a single relevant piece of information, as far as I can tell. In fact, it was misleading in several ways - by the cuts (and just naturally) I assumed Han was in the chair during the insanity of the Falcon's escape from Jakku.

I really don't understand all the people who can watch a combined total of five minutes of a two hour movie and then start complaining that they've seen all the good parts and they know everything that was going to happen. (I understand that this is, apparently, exactly what happened with Fantastic Four, but... Fantastic Four...) I'm not saying OP specifically is one of THOSE complainers, but they ARE out there.

I won't read interviews and watch special features of a movie that I'm excited about until after I've seen it, but a trailer is generally pretty thoroughly curated to give you an idea and get you excited and show you some flashy-flashy, and I love 'em.

Bruce Wayne's smirk in the Batman vs. Superman trailer? Worth the price of admission. (sorry if I just ruined the whole movie for someone...)

When the movie was announced and we started to get information on what it was going to be, I decided to get on the hype train -- and I'm so glad I did. The lead-up to the movie was just as exciting as the movie itself; I genuinely enjoyed every little taste of Star Wars I could get. I will admit that, starting in December, I pretty much went on a Star Wars blackout; there were so many little clips springing up on TV, and at that point I got a bit wary of spoilers.

Here's the thing: the trailers didn't really spoil any crucial story elements, and they made the past two years much more enjoyable for me. Yes, I knew that Poe and Finn would crash-land on Jakku again; but I knew it about five seconds before he frickin' said they were heading back to Jakku! I knew Poe would live; but if anything, that helped me enjoy the movie more, because I wasn't affected by the lack of closure that came with that TIE fighter sinking into the sand.

Plus, I can't imagine how hard it would be to black out all the info on the movie with all the merchandising and advertising and what not. I want to be excited for these movies; I don't want to be doubting whether or not they'll be good; I just want to wonder how good they'll be, and following them from the start made that happen.

Personally -- I just don't get it, why doesn't everyone want to see this stuff beforehand? It's fantastic!

Lol, nice. To each his own really. But to me at least, not watching any trailers didn't mean I wasn't hyped (we were literally the second group in line at our theater, not braggin', just says we were excited). I always knew it would at least be good, but I know there were many who doubted, and I'm glad the trailers were there to help sway some of them. I couldn't (and didn't really try) avoid the toys and stuff, and I still knew ALL of the main character's names without so much as a Google search, I just avoided the trailers. And please don't misunderstand, I don't think anyone is wrong for watching trailers or any other spoiler, I just don't see the huge draw. I was also curious if anyone else was like me.

Did anyone else notice that some of the trailer scenes did not make it into the movie? There was a scene in I think the second trailer that had one person (Maz?) hand THE lightsaber over to another person (not Finn, might have been rey). That didn't happen.

I want to say that there was at least one other scene that didn't happen, but I'm blanking now. I need to watch the trailers again. I'm assume the 'missing' stuff will be in cut scenes in the bluray in a few months.

I did my best to avoid any kind of trailers. I went back this week and watched all of them to see what they showed. Oddly enough there is a scene in the trailers that was cut. It was Maz handing Leia Anakin's lightsaber!

Had the same feeling.

But I guess its caused by the monologue of the teaser
