What would you like to see in the episode 8

By amrothe, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Mara jade will never show up. The EU was tossed. They may borrow concepts. The likelihood of using actual names of characters from the EU is very low if non-existent.

And yet... TCW and Rebels (especially) have been full of EU concepts...

The thing about "Legends" status is that it's not "this isn't canon", it's "until we say this isn't true, or put something in canon that contradicts it... then you never know.

It's like Schrodinger's canon...

Really? I had no idea.

It is true, alot of EU characters and concepts became canon because of the TV-Shows. Aurra Sing for example was just an interesting extra in Phantom Menace. Comics gave her some backstory of having force powers, then TCW makes them canon.

The Lasat, which existed in exactly the same way as Zeb is depicted in Rebels, were based on Ralph McQuarries Chewbacca concept art. EU named them Lasat, Rebels ev team wanted to adapt this species, too, but before they did it by themselves, they looked if something preexisted in the EU.

Mind you not everything got adapted that way, but a lot. The most recent example that comes to my mind is the Immobilizer 418 cruiser.

BUT! That doesn't mean that they will adapt everything from the old canon to the new and Thank the force they won't. Some of it was TERRIBLE!

Is that the same as the Interdictor-class cruiser that was long ago published in the WEG d6 game, and was shown in a recent Rebels ep?

(E: looked it up, and it is.)

Yes, Interdictor is the name of the first ship. So the class is named after it. The Shipyard sign is Immobilizer-418

Wait, what? She's in TCW but there's nothing in there I noticed that said she was Force Sensitive that I noticed. Where did you get that from?

Sarcasm is so lost in text. Sigh.

A meschugge. I thought they adapted that too from the EU. Well she still is a bounty hunter... So it still applies.

[sarcasm]You notice that now?[/sarcasm]

Dance fights.

Luke is caught flat footed by a group of FO Storm Troopers.

Luke gestures, "You will challenge me to a dance fight."

Trooper: "Its time for a dance off, Jedi scum."

Luke: "If I win you will let me go."

Trooper: "If you win, we will let you go."

Luke busts a Travolta move.

Troopers: "Uh-oh. He's going old school."

If Rey is Luke's daughter then they will need to show us the mom and tell her story. She will not be Mara Jade. She may be some character drawn from aspects if they so choose, but they will create their own character for the movie. She could be a character that is a daughter of Obi-Wan that he was unaware of that is swept up into the Empire and becomes an inquisitor or an emperor's hand (if they choose to canonize them) that meets Luke after RotJ and feeling a connection they fall in love and produce Rey. But then dies during the falling out between Luke and Kylo. Her burying her Force abilities could stem from her losing her mother and father.

Aurra Sing is yet another example of a character's look giving them life much like Boba Fett. But also like Boba Fett she is a part of the movies. The ship and the Lasat are just concepts that are being used. Just as I said. What I did say is that the movies will not have any named characters from the EU. By this I mean characters like Thrawn, Mara Jade, or Prince Xizor.

What do I want to see in the 8th movie?

Well, when you said the "EU was tossed", that's not the case.

Granted, anything from the EU that's post-RotJ is probably toast, true.

Eh, it's not even been tossed. It just doesn't count until someone (be it a novelist, a show writer or a game maker) decides it does. Most of the Clone Wars and Rebel shows pulls directly from the old EU.

Yes, that's what we were saying.

My bad. Been following along a few days at a time.

No worries -- I didn't mean it to come off as a "rebuke", if that's how it read.

I would love to see more of General Organa in command, I bet Carrie Fisher would be perfect as a sassy, snarky, sarcastic drill sergeantcommander-in-chief. I mean her voice alone is just fantastic. She's like Adama and Roslyn rolled into one character :D

As Leia goes, I'd also like to see Luke's "you have that power, too" line pay off somehow.

I'd love to see Kylo Ren come after her to do what he did to Han, only for Leia to wave a hand and ricochet him off the background like a rubber ball.
