Integrated astromech and r2-d6, what if you discard?

By petercooman123, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So let's say i have R2-D6 on my x wing, to get push the limit, and i put integrated astromech on it.

If i discard the droid, do i keep the EPT? Bacause technically you lose the slot for that EPT.Was testing out the integrated astromech and that was a question that came up!

We don't know yet. Now that the T-70 expansion is released, hopefully we'll get some official guidance on this.

To briefly summarize the arguments: huge ships handle crippled sections (which have fewer slots) by discarding cards that there is not now room for (pro discarding EPT), but a crit that reduces your pilot skill to 0 doesn't make you discard Royal Guard TIE, or its bonus modification, despite no longer meeting its pilot skill requirement (anti discarding EPT).

Basically we're at the ain't no rule says a dog can't play baseball stage, trying to come up with precedent for our preferred interpretation.

All right i'll keep an eye out for a clarification.

The thing is, if you would keep the EPT, then there is no use for the droid after the initial purchase, so you don't need to make a decision when you start taking damage. If you do lose the EPT, it could be worth keeping onto the droid to prevent that last hull damage that would finish you off.( and risking a bad critical hit first time you take damage)

You're not really risking anything. You know what the crit is going to be when you decide whether or not to discard it with IA.

Ah ok, i thought it was before you flipped it over. So that makes it even better.

I imagine you would lose the EPT, since the mech is what grants it.

Specificity is key here. Vague summaries of the rules, as opposed to direct quote, are worthless. The mech adds an EPT ribbon to your upgrade bar by stating, "Your upgrade bars gains the (ribbon) icon."

So, the question is whether a ship must discard an upgrade if the ship does not have the relevant icon on its upgrade bar. Think of what that will make players do with their Tractor Beam upgrade on the Mist Hunter and you should be able to figure out how this currently works.

Outside of a FAQ, or the rules making Zuckuss discard his Tractor Beam at the start of the game, your EPT is safe even though your droid is toast.
