Hey all you out there in Star Wars land! (Warning – Go no further ye afraid of spoilers)

So as we’ve all been lamenting, there were sadly not many new capital ships if TFA. There were, however, lots of cool characters in the movie, so in the interest of making lemonade, I figured it’d be fun exercise to imagine some of them as cards!

Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:

Leia Organa (Commander) – 30 pts.

“When a squadron is activated by a (squadron command), it may reroll any number of dice when attacking.”

Note: General Organa was able to wage war against the entire first order with what was, at the most, two dozen X-Wings?! That woman knows how to get the best out of her squadrons!

General Hux (Commander) – 20 pts.

“When a friendly ship is attacked after it has activated this round, it may cancel one die of its choice during the ‘spend defense token’ attack step.”

Note: As far as we can tell, the First Order only had one star destroyer, so General Hux’s ability is designed to benefit fleets with a low number of ships. Plus, it gives you an advantage if you have initiative, and General Hux (much like Mr. Solo) definitely shot first.

Captain Phasma (Officer – Empire Only) – 10 pts.

“While attacking a ship, you may add one red die to your attack pool. At the beginning of the fifth round, reduce all of your shields to zero.”

Note: Captain Phasma is the most loyal, badass, stormtropper of them all, and she makes your ship crazy good by inspiring everyone to be totally awesome just like she is! You can totally trust her with the command codes for your shields! Her mind is like a steel trap, and she’ll never break! Totally!

Poe Dameron (X-Wing Ace) – 18 pts.

Move: 3 Hull: 5 Anti-Squadron: 4 Black Dice Battery: 1 Black Die

Bomber, Escort, Rogue

Note: Poe Dameron's X-Wing squadron was, to quote Will Smith from Men in Black, “The best of the best of the best, sir… with honors.” This X-Wing squad is just that: a supercharged version of the standard X-Wing squadron, plus rogue since they operated without a capital ship.

What do you think? How would YOU represent the TFA characters as Armada cards?

The TFA prequel book Before the Awakening has a few new capital ships - Nebulon-Ks, Lancer-class frigates, Maxima-A class heavy cruisers, Dissident-class light cruiser.

As well as fighters (T-85 X-Wings - successor to the T-70)

Old ship designs still in use - Z-95 Headhunter, Imperial-class Star Destroyer, Home One.

As far as models go, do you think we will get new models for the T70 x wing and the FO tie? Especialy for armada, how would you be able to see the difference?

Probably not.

I don't think the models, or stats, would be different enough, frankly.

I love the rogue Poe!!! ffg do this, but he needs to be 21pts

Eh? Turbo-fanatic driving his ships into yours with total disregard for the safety of his men?

Poe:

You may divide your attack between each enemy squadron in range. +1 die for each squadron targeted.

Defenders tokens: 2 scatters!

General Solo (Leia):

At the beginning of the Ship phase, you may activate 5 squadrons as if they were activate using a squadron command.

BAMF.

Rey (pilot for Millennium Falcon)- when a ship or an obstacle is at distance 1, all attacks against the Falcon are considered obstructed.

I like the above suggestions for Finn (exhaust to reveal one enemy command dial) and Poe (rogue X-wing).

Kylo Ren (officer)- exhaust this card to deal one facedown damage card to you ship or discard one upgrade, then re-roll any number of dice in your attack pool.

I like the make-up, though he's cheaper then Wedge and has Rogue, so that seems a bit off. Also missing a special ability to really make him shine, though I suppose if he doesn't have any special ace ability, his 18 points might be appropriate (equivalent to a Firespray, with less hull, more anti-squadron, less bomber dice, and Escort?).

I'd also give him a scatter myself, but maybe that's too much.

Awesome special ability, though it probably needs a "While attacking" in there so that the ability only triggers once per round instead of chain-attacking six TIEs in a single activation. Definitely in Dash's cost territory, I'd think (24), especially if he has Rogue.

Not expensive enough. He's in the "Why wouldn't you take him?" Territory right now...

I think he is good at the level trout I can see an argument for 2 more points. I don't have the Squadron point guide down so this is all by feel.

My Gut feel compared him to Keyan... Who is 20 Points for that Black-Black, with an Ability that has a potential trigger.

You've got the Same Hull, Faster Speed, Escort and Rogue on top of it, before you even add the changes to the Anti-Squadron Ability, and the have his ability (for squadrons) with the Potential Trigger.

So yes, No math here on my end, either... Just a gut feeling that its too good for the points. Points should be a tough call.

I would love Poe to be able to give Rouge to other squadrons near him. Like how he took charge and led things from his X wing on the attack on starkiller base. I think it would be cool, powerful, and thematic. Letting your squads at range 1 gain rouge and you have this cool little assault squadron. Maybe only xwings or something. I dunno I'm not a game designer.

I like basically all of this, except the four black anti-squadron. Don't get me wrong, I love a chance for increased damage (and black dice just feel appropo), but the inability to get any accuracy results to lock down a Scatter feels... sad somehow. Unfortunately, all the solutions I can come up with (free accuracy result, crits count as damage, reroll dice while engaged) are all used already (Bossk, Vader, Dash), so non-starters. Although I suppose if he's activated with Flight Controllers, that'd be a blue die, right?

I love, love, love Brace + Scatter. It just feels so right. Black-Black anti-ship I could live without (Blue-Black seems fine with me), as I'm not paying 30 points for a squadron... probably. Dropping the Black-Black to Blue-Black at least sort of puts him in Boba's territory of 26 (less hull, gains Escort, Scatter, and upgrades blue anti-squadron to black), though I think I agree with Dras, four dice upgrades + Scatter is probably worth 5-6 points more than Boba (depending on how much value you put on Boba's extra hull point).

Someone needs this ability. Well, ok, maybe not "needs," but I really want someone to have this ability. Either a unique Ace, or upgrade cards for unique Aces or something.

I'm tempted to say that if only the Rebs got it there'd be a game imbalance issue. Except that the Imps already have way more Rogues than the Rebels do (all unique R&Vs except Dengar, plus generic Aggressors, Firesprays, and YV-666, vs. Han, Dash, and YT-2400s). So maybe not.

Maybe a Jan Ors-esque ability to "pass" Rogue to another non-unique squadron when he activates? I could see that being cool without being game breaking.

Every time you use his ability though, you have to say "Head straight at them! Don't let these thugs intimidate you!"

Not gonna lie. . . That fight scene over the lake that was a panorama of Finn as Poe shreds the TIE F/O's was amazing!

I think new models won't happen. They just wouldn't be distinguishable enough. However, I can see new cards being an option, perhaps included in a Force Awakens starter set. All you would need to make it happen is a rule that you can only have one type of X-Wing or TIE fighter in a given list. Here's how I would make them:

T-70 X-Wing

Hull: 5

Speed: 4

Anti-Squadron: 4 blue

Battery: 1 black

Escort, Bomber

Points: 15

The official description of the T-70 makes specific mention of upgraded speed, but little else. I think most would agree the X-Wing needs a battery upgrade in general. Upgrading the T-70 would be the perfect excuse and be in keeping with what we saw from the fighters in the movie. This price and profile also helps to keep the other Rebel fighters employed. A-Wings are still faster, cheaper, and bring counter. The B-Wing remains the undisputed bomber champion. Y-Wings may have the same bomber capability, but come in at 1/3 cheaper. Finally, the regular X-Wing remains the cheapest available escort and is just as good in a squadron fight once engaged.

TIE/FO

Hull: 4

Speed: 4

Anti-Squadron: 2 blue, 1 black

Battery: 1 blue

Swarm

Points: 10

The TIE/FO's official description is a little more vague than the T-70. All it really says is the First Order brought them up to "modern standards." Luckily, that description specifically includes the addition of shields, so adding a hull point makes sense. The weapons seemed more powerful, but not significantly so. The substitution of a black die for one of the blue anti-squad dice seemed appropriate.

As for Poe (seriously this time), I would rather he not have Rogue. For one, I don't think it's necessary to reflect his abilities. Two, I don't want rogue to be all that common. I think there are a number of proposals for Leia that better replicate how those fighters operated as a whole (my personal favorite is giving five squadrons the ability to activate at the start of the ship phase). What we saw was a guy that could not be touched in a dogfight, absolutely shredded his opponents, and made everyone around him better. I prefer to concentrate entirely on his dogfighting capabilities. Plus, a dedicated dogfighter that helps those nearby is something the Rebels lack. Wedge is OK, but he only helps himself. I want some synergy **** it. Here's my take:

I costed him at 1 point per black anti-squadron die, 1 point for the brace, 2 points for the Scatter, and 6 points for the ability. Against normal squadrons, he's overpriced since his ability does nothing. Against Aces, he's pure evil. Seems like a good niche to me.
